    Changing IP address

    Hi
Does anyone know of a place I can get a different IP address, weither for free or for a small cost (under ?5 a month)?

I can find lots of sites that profess to change your IP, but actually dont.

Basically my housemate and I play on a gaming site and I dont want it to look dodgy that we both play on the site on the same IP.

    Thanks.

Are you talking about having two different IP's for the same connection, if so I dont think its a possability. Even if you changed your connections IP, you would both still have the same IP address.

Check with your ISP. Mine offers "FAST IP" for ?100 a year. This gives me 5 permament IP addresses for my use.

Then on the router you assign which traffic/services goes IN/OUT for each address.

Saying that, if you both want the *same* service, you may have to setup a bastion DMZ and use the real Internet IP on the PC; with a direct route to the web over the router. This would require that you secure your machine, as your router prolly had a hardware firewall.

Anyway, it's quite techy to go this route. For "Surfing" you can use proxy addresses (Pair or free) but this would offer terrible performance for gaming, and usually is limited to port 8080, not x y z needed for gamespy.

Maybe there is a simple solution from your ISP? Have you asked your ISP?

EDIT, If you did get multiple IP addresses, and go for the bastion host option for the second PC, I attach a pic for clarity.

so those are static? may I ask why you need an ip for each home machine?

I use machines behind a NAT / ip masquerading firewall box with iptables.

of course, theres only 1 IP I have but every machine has full access via the gateway, regardless of what ports are required.

          just wondering.

For this chap I think all that matters is that each PC "Appears" to have a different "internet" IP, so if you solution can do that, that's him sorted. I would have thought it would still show as coming from the same address?

Network stuff is not my thing, so you prolly have the answer!

On my setup I just needed the one perm IP address that my MX record for my domain points to. I then use a simple NAT table to point incoming traffic on 25 to my mail server. I don't need/use the other IP addies.

It shouldn't worry most big sites, after all look at traffic from internet cafes, seldom do they use static IPs for each and every terminal.

Me and 2 other guys play hattrick from the work IP, we've never been suspected of anything. The second one of them tried to set up a second account though they knew, I suspect most places use something more advanced than a straight IP match = kick scheme.

                Thanks for all the replies.

I basically wanted to use a proxy to change my IP. One for me, one for my mate.
All of the lists I can find on the net of proxies dont actually change your IP if you test it. Some change the last digit by 1 number up or down and that is all.

Dont have a router, just a pc and BB.

I think you may be right about them not being bothered about 2 accounts from the same IP, as long as there is nothing blatently dodgy going on.
