    DC Bootdisc question

Ordered what I thought would be a nicely boxed DC-X from www.ps2-bootdiscs.co.uk for $9.99 (even though it's .co.uk??)

What arrived in the post was a crappy looking burn in a flimsy plastic wallet thing. Ok, not best pleased, but if it works who cares I thought.

Placed the thing in the Dreamcast and all that happens is the CD player screen loads up with 1 track showing 29 seconds. Nothing plays, even from the play game menu option and I can't see any way to sort this out!

Anyone got any ideas or have I been had big time? If so what can I do?

Plus anyone want to sell me a working DC-X (in box would be nice) if I don't get anywhere with a refund or return from the website?

Don't know what's happened there. Personally sounds like you've been scammed but others might know otherwise.

If you have no joy when you speak with that place both

    and

www.chipsworld.co.uk have the proper DC-X bootdisc. Both are inredibly reliable and highly recommended.

      Hey mate,

Sorry to hear that. You've just been sold a copy of the free Utopia boot disc, which hasnt actually been burned properly, so hence doesnt work.

You can download this yourself off the net and burn it to cd properly if you have a cd writer, or buy the dc-x from www.videogameimports.com - the dc-x is a better option because it enables 60hz on import games, whereas the Utopia does not.

      Hope that helps

        Reef,

It's a bit worrying that the site you ordered it from has a picture of a PSone in the dreamcast section!!

          Was looking at that site...

          Quantity Description Price
          1 1 x Dreamcast Boot Disc ?6.25/$9.99
Never did it say you were explicitly getting a DC-X disc, even though it had a picture of it at the top of the page. Extremely dodgy place, and I'll definately stay well clear.

            two questions from me then
            1. Are all dreamcast DC-Xs same? Cause i've seen versions from many manufacturers.
            2. Does anybody know any URL to download the image from?

DCX is a brand of boot disc not the name of all boot discs for the DC. All DCX are the same because they are DCX boot discs. All boot discs are not DCX.

Thats what I thought, but dc-x is still mentioned in the body of the text so I think they would be on very shaky ground if they didnt supply the customer with a DC-X disk.

Sorry to hear you got scammed, you could try putting a wanted ad in the wanted folder here as there are normally a few copies knocking about and would be much cheaper than VGI.

                  dunno about versions

Don't think you can download DC-X, only Utopia (which only boots in 50hz i think)

Utopia can be found in the needed tools section over at http://www.dcemulation.com

That's false advertising. They have a picture of a DC-X on the boot discs page.

It also seems like they sell it to you as the DC-X:
" Don't want to install a Dreamcast Mod chip to play your import and backup games on your Dreamcast? NO PROBLEM! The Dreamcast Boot CD dc-x universal converter is the answer."

There is surely some department you can contact relating to this.

You could contact trading standards and tell them about it ( http://www.tradingstandards.gov.uk/ )

Also says on that page "No swap trick required" - how do you play import games with the boot disk without swapping? Enquiring minds want to know

                      Regards
                      Marty

Thanks for all the help and advice people

I went and got a boxed and official DC-X disc from DamRabbit off the forum, why I didn't do this in the first place I will never know

As for chasing the site in question, I have emailed them a few times but without reply. I will wait until the weekend to see if I hear from them and if not then I will go through the trading standards route to try and get some justice!

Lesson to be learned - only use recommended sites, should have checked here first to see if anyone had used them before

2nd lesson - stay the hell away from ps2-bootdiscs.co.uk ft:
