What's the absolute cheapest way for HD 360?

Sorry if this has been discussed elsewhere, there's so much HDTV discussion here at the moment it's hard to sift through it all with a search!

    Anyway

I want the best possible picture when I get my 360 come November. At the moment I have a plain ol' Toshiba 24" Widescreen nothing else TV. Which I imagine isn't up to the job.

As I have a TV, I'm not bothered about using whatever I buy to watch TV, or do any other HDTV shenanigans with. I'll probably plug my 360 into it, and nowt else. So what's the cheapest option, for the best (or decent) quality?

The absolute cheapest way is to pick up a second-hand 17" CRT monitor capable of doing 1280x720 @ 60Hz and buying the VGA cable... but it won't be very nice. Not that it won't look good - it should, but you just won't get the impact of it being next-gen from that.

I'd say probably the best/cheapest solution would be to go for the Samsung LE26R41B - it's about ?650 online, and is a fantastic LCD. It'll be a noticeable size improvement over your current screen too. The 23" is an option as well, but I've only seen it around ?100 less, and honestly, I would say the extra ?100 is definitely worth it. I've also not been able to confirm whether it has a HDMI port on the back or not - the German Samsung site says it does (the UK site hasn't been updated for ages and they're not on there) but I've heard reports that it doesn't.

Well, the cheapest thing would be to get a vga crt monitor. You can get a 19" Iiyama for ?116, you could spend just ?50 if you wanted... Obviously a bit small for the standard living room setup, but it'll look good (and lag free) if you can sit close enough. It's what I'll be doing.

I know this stuff is still expensive, but I'm surprised that someone wanting a video quality upgrade wants to go with the cheapest available LCD option. If money's really tight, I agree with the other posters - get a computer CRT and a VGA cable. It will look better than a cheap scaling job on a budget LCD.
