Sandisk 1GB Stick - Fugged From The Outset ?

Took delivery of a 1gb stick today for the PSP. Plugged it in, formatted it, all looked good with 949mb free which I presume is correct (as they're always under) - Copied over my emus & saves etc, close the USB connection and it's knackered.

PSP is reporting 0mb free on the card, it can't format it ("format failed 8001007C" is the reported error) and when I reconnect to PC via USB it can't read the card - just batters it for 5 minutes then does nothing.

Anybody got any ideas ? I got it delivered from the States and would rather avoid the whole return/replace situation if there's a way of recovering it. Can't hook it directly to the PC unless I get an adaptor (only takes Pro).

I can give you a loan of one of the adapter's if you want to try it. Just pm me your details.

      Cheers,

Thanks for the offer Mark - Just ordered one from ebay was only ?2.80 then found out my mate had one

Apparently not uncommon this and apparently if anybody else has the problem it can be resolved by formatting the card directly from your PC (i.e not via USB connection of PSP->PC) if you have a memory card reader. I'll update and let you know if it works - if not, return to sender.

I had this problem with one of the cards I own, it wouldnt format on the psp, pc or camera but worked fine in the camera so i just took some pics with the camera put it back in the psp and it formated fine.

Thanks Huxley - Getting the impression from other forums etc that a format on another device will resolve it - Fookin annoying all the same - Apparently if you insert it to PC it will not register but you should still be able to select&format the device so ???

The same thing happened to my first 1gb sandisk card.

Nothing would get it to recognise - pc or PSP.

Had to send it back to vgplus in the end. Replacement works fine.

              Apparantly its not uncommon.

Tried it in a K750i - couldn't even recognise there was a memory stick plugged in. Last thing to try is attaching to PC via my card readers and try formatting that way but looks like it's getting returned to the states tomorrow.

Solid state memory - I'd never have thought there'd be a problem.

                Bugger.

Final effort last night involving blind formatting on PC - took about 15 minutes then came back saying couldn't do it - nothing can save the card - To try and avoid having to return to USA I'm going to visit a few stores at lunchtime and attempt the "no receipt but can I straight swap" angle.......

A friend of mine had the same prob with a sandisk 1 gig card, tried all the above with no joy so i gave it a go on my camera da da! it worked. If you have no joy, as a last resort you could mail it to me and see if I`m lucky for you.
