    wireless home network O_o ???

my old man sent me the latest Samsung notebook with 17" widescreen...
pretty nifty albeit bit bigger in dimension given the screen size...

bought Netgear MIMO wireless router on Saturday and spent all night to figure out how to replace my old wired router with the wireless one.. finally succeeded after few hours of scratching head... Now missus can surf the web while sitting at the back yard while watching our kid playing...

anyhow, does anyone know how to set up the home network so she can access the music and video file on her PC at the study room?
I fiddled with the setting and services but so far the notebook can see the our home network, she named it as Neko-chan (-_- ; but cannot see any PC under that network...
anything I need to do to make this happen? All PC are running WinXP...

    TIA
    cheers

If you run "Setup Home or Office Network" under "Network Connections" in Control Panel on both computers. It doesn't matter which computer you start with. If you need help going through that setup then post again

Basically once you have it setup you'll see the shared folders from your PC on the laptop. To make folders shared folders right click on them and do "Sharing and Security..."

when I run Setup Home or Office Network on wired WinXP PC I lost the internet connection and I had to hardware rest the router and setup from the start again... ?

someone suggest to install IPX so I'm going to try that tonight.

Have you got a software firewall that is blocking her? Add the local ip range to it.

Are you using simple sharing? It's a pain in the arse. The only way to share is to drag folders into the special shared area. If so, go to folder options and right at the bottom, turn off simple sharing. Then you just need to right click on folders to share them.

installed IPX on notebook that's running WinXP Pro and still can't see the home network... I'm using wireless router that also connects wired PCs in the house...

I'm thinking of getting network HDD and move all the media files to it - and be able to turn off other PC when we are using notebook only... coz I'm sick of trying

Turn off the home network. It's probably just that that's messing it up. Just do normal shared folders and set a shortcut to the ip/shared folder of the pc.

Turn off all potential barriers - ZoneAlarm, XP firewalls, Norton, whatever. Make sure you have some shared folders, or just type \\computername\c$ (am I allowed to say that?). Make sure all computers are in the same network... uh... not sure how XP works though tbh. Normally I just turn off all XP leetness. All computers should probably be set for DHCP, make sure the router knows about them (by MAC address or whatever).

Erm. If you get that working then you can turn on the other applications one by one to see what's breaking the connection.
