    Golden Age of Racing

Just wondering if anyone has played this? It's a budget game on PS2 and is going for a tenner on play.com. Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post, but I thought if anyone replied it would be relevant to 1st impressions.

I got it half price a few weeks ago when it eas one of the GAME deals of the week.

The sense of speed is not that good (on a par with Total Immersion Racing). You get a good sized field of cars to drive against and they can be pretty aggressive. The car handling is not bad. Probably a reasonable attempt at simulating cars from that era. Only tried a couple of cars and I am not sure how different they were. There seems to be multiple versions of each track (I think a short one and a "full length" one I presume to save having to design too many new tracks). I presume they are all fictitious. Not entirely sure how to unlock them. For the money I paid I decided I would keep it as it played reasonably well. Didn't like the CD so loaded it to my HD. Strangely there is no option (that I could see) to turn off the music. Not really that much of problem as it is only on for the menus.

You get to do some challenges/tests. There is time attack and then there is the normal racing.

      Cheers mate

It does seem to infer on play that the tracks are real, so this is not the case?

I am not sure if they exist or not (the ones I tried). I'd not heard of it anyway. Play don't actually say they are real tracks.

If you could give us some track names, I'm sure we could google up some answers for you. My guess is that they're places like Dijon that used to be great tracks but you don't see any more. For a start, it's now considered obligatory to include the old Nordschiefe.

I'll have to check the game tonight for the names.

It's made by ' Brain in a Jar ' who I have heard a lot of positive things about over the past few years.

i am pretty sure the tracks aren't real. i haven't played it much but the tracks i have played were good fun and the handling seems like a good balance between sim and arcade in that you have to slow down a lot for the corners but you don't go spinning off the track all the time like you would if it was a full on sim. although as i said i haven't really played it for long enough to give a propper impression of it

There are 5 locations (two track layouts at each. They are called:

                  Brookfields (Club and GP)
                  Tieferwald (Club and GP)
                  Montressa (Speedway and GP)
                  St Christo (Club and GP)
                  DeCampeones (Club and GP)

They don't sound very real to be certainly.

None of them ring a bell, I'd admit.

Easily one of the worst examples of a racing game I've ever clapped eyes on, and quite possibly one of the worst games of ANY genre I've ever played.

Was greeted by almost universal derision in the office when we were trying it out.

No-one lasted more than a race or two without feeling extremely ripped off, and we hadn't even paid for the thing!

Seriously, it's not even worth a tenner. Even if someone GIVES you it, don;t bother.

Well that's put me off it!!

I was quite curious about this, never got to play GP Legends on the PC. I think I'll give it a miss now.

                        Thanks to everyone who responded.

It sounds to me like you really want to play GT Legends, out on the PC Any Day Now. Demo from the usual places; it's the follow-up to GT-R.
