    another bittorent question!

ok guys so ive just got a 2meg connection and am downloading some stuff via bit torrent. im just wondering what dl speeds i should be getting? i know its not an exact science and is dependent upon how many seeds/peers you are copnnected to and they're upload speeds, but im getting a max of 33 kb/s?

im using azereus and have norton firewall but have enabled the ports i am using. i dont know why but this seems a bit slow to me? should i be getting faster? the torrents seem to be connected to quite a few seeds.

    cheers

Sounds about right bittorent is slow, not sure why im sure some more techy person will tell you why, but it seems to run like that no matter what,

have you tried bitcomet seems to be the fastest bit torrent app ive found still takes 11 hours to dl a few gig mind.

Try this Broadband Speed Test,to make sure you can get maximun possible speed.

Im on a 1 meg and reguarly get 90kibs yet today im only getting 26. Think it depends on you tea leaves. Did you check them this morning?

In other words i dont have a clue why one day its high, yet the next low,but i get more high than low so seems ok.

(today 13 seeds in 79 peers)

simoran BT speeds are dependent of number of seeds, speeds of lines and if you have set your download and upload max speeds to something "kind" to other users ie both about the same, with 2mb, you should be able to get a max of approx 220kb when running full pelt, try downloading one of the video files from www.trizeal.co.uk/videos.htm and see what speed you can get, should fairly max out your connection.

Let me guess - your requested file is of somewhat questionable legality?

For reference, when I tried to download an episode of Smallville which the video messed up recording, I got about 20k/sec on my 2Mb/sec NTL line. Downloading the perfectly legal Rebirth ISO which Propellerheads recently released for free, I could max out my connection somewhere north of 200k/sec

It's not like there is a filter on dodgy packages or anything, just that people are unsurprisingly nervous about seeding such files. A low seed/peer ratio (and low numbers of seed generally) means you're in for a wait, sorry.

That's the price you pay for not having a decent Usenet provider.

Varies for me. The highest I've gotten is around 100-115 KB/s, which I've gotten even with requested files of "somewhat questionable legality" as mid put it. Other times I'm getting 5 KB/s and sometimes barely 1KB/s. Generally though with more seeds it's faster.

You might want to try lowering your upload speed. I can't remember the exact reason behind it( I do recall reading about it somewhere though) but I was getting slow speeds before I did that.

My preferance is upload speed set to 10 and number of uploads to 4.

hit and miss mate, BT's are a mystery, see pic, apparantly connected to four out of zero seeds but downloading at steady 75-80kbs ...

Does Forced Downloading actually do much?

I always use it tbh, just think it starts downloading bit quicker and does sometimes seem to connect you to more seeds.

Can someone give me a hand with the settings on Azureus?

I'm getting a mixture of speeds which ain't quite right for my 2mb line...

try setting max upload and download speeds to 200kb and see if that helps, it's give and take with BT's, even with a 2mb line you may only get 5kb if the torrent is popular/there aren't many seeds.

I have it set at 180 KB/s down and between 5 and 25 KB/s up depending on the time of day.

When I leave the PC on overnight I set it to the higher uplaod as I am not surfing then.

Oh, and don't forget to use Peerguardian.
