    Router advice needed

I'm getting Xbox Live as soon as in the next few weeks and I'm not sure which router to get. I was thinking of getting the Speedtouch 530 for ?100 but then I saw the Speedtouch 510 for ?65. I'm a complete novice when it comes to this stuff so can anyone explain the difference between the two?

And is the 530 worth the extra ?35?

Or are they both rubbish and I should by something else?

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

The SpeedTouch is great. If I remember right, the 530 has a USB port as well as ethernet ports, whereas the 510 only has ethernet ports.

Unless your PC doesn't have a network port, you should go for th 510.

I don't know much about routers, but I got this Linksys one from Amazon which was easy to set up and works fine with my PC and XBox.

but you need a modem as well with the linksys one. I wish they would stop calling adsl modems routers, it gets so confusing for people getting started.
why cant they call it an ethernet modem or somthing ??

do a search on here, as I pointed out one at dabs for ?40 that will do exactly what you need.

After help from this board, I bought this router:

I really recommend spending a bit extra and buying a four port router so you're in the position to share the internet connection and link up 4 xboxes.

Spent all of yesterday hosting a Wolfenstein game in my house with the TVs next to each other, and it was the best gaming experience in recent memory

At least three of my friends are now getting an Xbox and broadband this week

I've played Wolf on the PC for some time, but being able to communicate with strangers with the headset (without setting up Roger Wilco or something) really gives it an added dimension, plus NO crashing and everyone's using the same hardware.

            Very impressive.

... because they actually are routers.

An ADSL modem (like the Alcatel USB hub or a PCI card) handles the ADSL connection in software, and gives the IP address to your PC.

An ADSL modem/router terminates the ADSL connection itself and connects PCs and consoles over ordinary ethernet and tcp/ip protocols (dhcp and dns bascially). They are a lot more flexible and compatible. Also, a hardware ADSL modem/router introduces less lag, which means they are better for games.
