XBox - can my drive play CDRs? (picture inside)

I heard that it was potluck as to which DVD Drive you got with XBoxes these days.

Anyone tell me if mine is the one that can play CDRs or the **** one that only plays DVDRs and CDRWs?

Mine is exactly the same as that, and that plays CDR's which is unusual, as all my other xbox drives did not

Ditto, I've just got a modded Green Xbox and it plays all my CDR's, it appears I have that drive as well, Phillips I think as opposed to the one with the holes that's a Samsung.

Just tried playing a burnt music CDR and it works!!

Cheers guys. Looks like the new drive is more widespread than thought. Maybe all the Green ones work then!

                  Philips - CDR
Thomson - No CDR, CDRW may work
                  Samsung - Anything

Surely the Phillips should be "Anything" too then?

Philips are a bit fussier on the types of CDR. Samsungs would probably play a slice of toast, they are that good, whereas Philips prefer decent media over silvertop blanks ?10 for 100 type discs. Same with Thomson and CDRW, only really get on with decent types, and even then some brands will only work with 74m not 80m discs.

I've absolutely no problems with any CDRs so far.
