How many endings does Silent Hill 2 have, and how many times do you have to beat it to get the "real" ending?

There are 4 main endings to the actual story which are

In Water
Rebrth
Leave
Maria

And 2 mock endings

Dog
UFO

They take all kind of doing to get them all.

have a shufty at the faq pages for it on gamefaqs.com, one of them details everything you have to do to get each ending... after being utterly freaked out by the first hour of the game i decided not to play on but read up on what i missed out. have to say i'm glad i didn't carry on playing.

i cheated with silent hill 2 as i used action replay to get a chainsaw and other weapons was fun killing the thing in that room

Funny - I stopped playing because it didn't seem very scary in the first hour (compared to SH1) ...

I really should go back to it.

i always thought sh2 was the best of them, very closely followed by sh1. only reason sh1 isn't the best imo is because of the gritty ps1 graphics. its awful! although in some way adds to the bizarre gritty atmosphere..
