Linux, logging in as root with KDE/Mandrake

I am a total Linux noob, i have just set up Mandrake to use Squid and have set the root password and also another user (Me)
I cant find any option to log in as root and therefore cant install any programs, any help?

    Cheers

you could either login as a normal user then type 'su -' in a terminal to change to superuser.

or .. you could press ctrl-alt-f2(to f6) for up to 6 virtual terminals where you can login as root too.

I'm not familiar with mandrake too much, but they are all the same principles.

when you say 'you don't have any options to login as root'

when you turn the computer on, does it boot up and leave you at a graphical login manager? such as GDM or KDM? with a pretty screen and stuff..

or does it auto login as your normal nonroot user?

if its just a login manager screen you can (obviously) just login with root's username and password. it can't be that though else you would have done it.

Nope, it just logs straight in without prompting to KDE
