(No help to you, sorry, but ...) could we have a sticky re: retro shops abroad? Next month I'm off to Antwerp and Rome and it would be nice to be able to pop into a second hand games shop while on my travels.

Sorry, I can?t really help you there. However, you could try asking here. It?s a German Retro and Neo Geo page with forum.
It?s all in German, so if you have problems registering just send me a personal message.

      Edit:
Alternatively you could also ask here (a German Shoot?em Up page).

Sounds like a good idea to me, I can write a hell of a lot on a good dozen in Paris.. addresses, prices, hardware, quality, quantity, specialization..

            Hello matey

What's the name of the street in Paris with all the games shops along it side by side. I stumbled across it once there and never found it since?

Found this shop in Lille during my travels:

The guy who runs it is obviously a serious gamer. Loads of lovingly preserved import stuff from a boxed NEC PC-FX to special edition Dreamcasts, Neo Geo stuff, a Guitar Freaks box set, loads of Jap Dreamcast, Famicom, PSX, Saturn games etc etc. Seemed to be reasonably priced too compared with the usual high street rip-off prices, eg - white PC Engine 55 euro, PAL Rez 35 euro. Definitely worth a visit.

Didn't find anything in Antwerp, but it's worth checking some of the toy shops in Brussels. In one near the centre, they were knocking out GC Harvest Moon (French & English version) for 12 euro which is about 8 quid.

You probably mean Boulevard Voltaire at the end where it joins onto Republique (a big square). There's a dozen or so stores there all of which have some import, some are totally specialized import/retro too. They're not all on the main road though, rue de Malte and rue Jean Pierre Timbaud have two of the better stores (at the end of the streets closest to voltaire).

You could be meaning rue des Ecoles though, that area (the Jussieu area) has maybe 6 stores including two retro/import ones.

Last weekend I stumbled across a nice shop in Amsterdam called 'Game Over?' -- it's a little pricey, but then most retro specialist shops are. Definitely worth a visit though -- they have pretty much every mainstream retro format covered including a bit of japanese stuff.

If you're in Amsterdam it's worth a visit. You can find it pretty much opposite centraal station, on hasselaerssteeg 12. They also have a website here -- http://www.gameover.nl/
