Guilty Gear XX Reload (PSP) - Newbie Question

Just got this game on import for my PSP, bloody love it - but i have yet to complete the story mode because, well, i haven't figured out the end of game boss.

not sure if the boss is random everytime, but it's the vampire girl with the guitar. Now, her special moves totally confused me at first - the ones where 'Danger' marks appear on the screen in squares.

I figured out how to dodge the first variation of it, where you can just walk to the far edge of the screen and the danger marks, and the projectiles which eventually follow them go over your head.

and after another 30 minutes I figured out how to dodge the one where its a wave, you simply stand in the gap and then slowly edge yourself forward as the move carrys itself out.

But how on earth do i dodge the one where danger appears all over the screen? i tried running behind her but alas, the balls just come back and whack me - that one move takes away about 80% health so i've yet to complete it even on easy.

    Help me!

The basic tactic for I-No on the PS2 version is...kill her before she gets the chance to do it.

Your best bet is to go for a instant kill, although that's really cheap. But so is I-No, so you shouldn't let that bother you. Get your bar up a bit, press X, circle, square and triangle (I'm assuming the buttons are the same), and then try your luck. (Every characters instant kill is the same, quarter circle forward, quarter circle forward, Hard Slash. Except for May's, half circle forward, half circle forward and hard slash)

Ah yes. I knew about that move, i pressed all four face buttons and i 'charged up' then a little count down appeared in the corner depending on how much rage i had, then i could do a double fireball and hard-slash, sadly it missed everytime - didn't realise it was an instant kill! woot.

surely you can avoid that move tho? must be a way

You'd think so wouldn't you? To be honest, I can't really remember if you can dodge it. If you can though, it's not easy. Wait until you get black SP characters, and you can just block all of it without being hurt

GameFAQ's has nothing on the PSP game, and not much on the arcade version either - so im having to pick it all up from practice. has a nice 'art work' section which is still lovely and empty for me (d'oh).

how do i get black SP characters? :P

If you can't dodge it thats lame - whats with the beat-em-up tradition of having lame boss characters - first we had tekken with the rather cheap boss, then we had DoA with the uber cheap "can't even throw it" boss with the wonky camera angle, projectile attacks and annoying blur special effect, then we had the ultra-lame SF3:Third Impact boss - who is so lame i refuse to remember his name (the fire/ice/gay hybrid). and now this!

          *sobs*

Yeah, it's easy to avoid. the big arc one, either sit under the arc, or stand next to her and do a double jump (the timing is easy to get) for the long one go crouch at the other end of the screen, and for the 3rd variation repeat method one.

Tadaaah! But i'd like to see you try it on that dodgy PSP D-pad

            EDIT

PSP version is yet another conversion or Guilty gear #Reload for those not in the know, so look up[ FAQ's for the PC, PS2 or Xbox version. Story mode and missions have been the same, or similar, across the shop.

Kizzy, the 'big arc' doesn't have any space at the bottom, she essentially moves into a corner and then the whole friggin screen just says "Danger", i've tried crouching right next to her but that doesn't seem to work either.

i'll try a double jump tonight either that or i'll pick the cool vampire dude who has the funky hover attack which could be handy for avoiding it - you know, he jumps up, then comes down 3 seconds later spinning his cloak around hes friggin cool.

Whos the lady with the claw hand? - shes my current choice, along with the rather poncy looking guy in blue with the long sword. I played as the vampire for a while but he seems a bit cheap, his special moves normally consist of backing the feck off then attacking a split second later, handy against the CPU but i'd rather not master him to begin with.

May i also quickly complain the game lacks bouncy chests - i'm not a pervert (says the man with cammy and mai figures on his monitor), but seriously - some talent wouldn't go completely amiss, if they can have the generic ****e boss they could at least put some generic bimbos in for me to play as

Oh man, she drove me nuts on the XBox version. It's ages since I played it though so I can't remember what I did to avoid it... IIRC I figured out how to avoid the first two like you, then I just had to get lucky with the third attack.

And for the record she's way more annoying than Gill in SFIII!

For bimbos, well, depends how much of a fan you are. There's always doujinshi

I'm guessing by blue guy with sword you mean Ky, Vampire would be Slayer and claw hand girl? Sounds like a Baiken move.

To learn more about combos and characters try visiting fighting game websites like combovideos, shoryuken, and others. You can learn some mad combo's this way, and suddenly, I-no isn't an issue
