    Hello guys little problem,

Im getting my xbox ready for live, ive put a switch on it, flashed the bios of the chip to the latest xecuter 2, locked the hd but, When the chip is switched off it doesnt boot to the original ms dashboard, it freezes at the boot animation screen, when i press eject it boots straight to evox.

    specs

    1.0 xbox
    apple x 2.0
    xecuter2_4976.02_multiver_256k bios
    40 gig hd (locked)
    evox 3572

    any one help?

I would back up your saves via ftp and download slayer auto installer disc.

this will install all the apps you need and set it all up for evox and live.

unless you have a load of stuff that you dont want to loose on your f:\ drive.

have you read through the how tos on www.xbox-scene.com ???

It sounds to me like your original msdash xbe file is missing.

Do as Gizze suggests and head over to xbox-scene

Ah just thought, there is an option in slayers to

set up using switched chip and keep your e:\ and f:\ drive

obviously you will have to edit the ini file if you ftp'ed games in and edited it in the first place, but if you used xboxcopy or soimilar you should be fine.

the latest bios you need is on the auto insatller disc too which you must have on your chip.

just because you can access it via evox doesnt mean it is working fine as originally you had to rename the xboxdash to whatever, and call the evox dash xboxdash, with the chips you turn on and off there is a new bios, which looks for the evodash first, but, if the chip is off, it looks for the normal xboxdash.

so if you are turning your chip off it is looking for xboxdash (which is probably the evoxdash) and as such unassigned code, so it will throw an error or hang.

you need to rename them or run slayers to do it all for you (far easier and alot quicker)

your saves are in your E:\ drive

ftp in back up the lot

or choose the install that keeps it all on the slayers disc.

Are you sure the ms version of the dash is your original one? I've read that they are keyed to each individual machine, so without the mod chip running you have to have your original ms dash installed.

to the best of my knowlege it is.

yeah just checked, the one on my c/ back on my pc is def the original, this is what confusing me. everything should work but im missing something obv.

what are the possible reasons for it hanging when i boot with the power button + chip = off?

Maybe there is something wrong with the disk partitioning that the real dashboard doesn't like. Does the ms dash load ok with the mod chip enabled?

Maybe there are some critical files missing that the msdash uses.

Maybe the hard drive isn't actually locked.

Maybe something has fried your bios (really unlikely, but is there a chance it has been accidentally flashed?)

Have you got the original drive to swap in and try out?

i cant use the original drive as its from my previous xbox, the hdd im using currently is locked using config magic, ill re flash my chip again to make sure.

and its partitioned as evox likes it, i just used the install cd.

im getting the slayers disc atm so ill have atry at that

Yikes, I don't know of a way around that unless you can use your PC to reflash the bios. Some mod chips have a parallel port adaptor that lets you flash them from your PC. The Matrix mod chip has a PC programmer, as does the PRO version of the Xecuter 2.

I don't think you can do it from the XBox because you would need the mod chip working to run the flashing software

Also... I meant your XBox bios might have been fried, not the mod chip bios

Its possible to flash the bios on the motherboard itself. If there was a problem with that it might have explained why the XBox froze when the mod chip is disabled.

What happened to the original drive?
