    IP Address Query

Just a quick question. Was a bit bored just now so decided to check my IP, as you do, and I kept getting different IP addresses from the sites i visited.

whatismyip.com gave me 82.2.56.240 and 'proxy detected': 62.253.64.14 (what is this???)

    ipid.shat.net gave me: 62.253.64.17

whats going on, why all the different numbers? and which one actually gets sent to the sites i visit?

Most likely your IP to the world is 82.2.56.240 the proxy is probably the exchange (either adsl or cable) gateway address.

now its getting very strange. just went to google, and typed in my ip, and went through the list of all the ip sites, and each one gives me a different address.

the sites that give me this: 62.253.64.xx keep giving different numbers for xx

A dynamic D class IP is quite common, I wouldn't get to worried.

Go to "start" then "run" type "CMD" without the quotes then press return/enter. In the new window type "ipconfig" then press enter/return. That'll give you your ip address for both your network port and any other devices such as adsl modem. If you're isp uses a dynamic ip system it'll change everytime you disconnect from the internet and reconnect. If its static it'll be the same everytime. Eg:

I dont see your point mate, we all know there's multiple ways to get the machines ip address, this is quicker in my opinion than going to find then winipcfg. Another way to do it would be to go to start, show all connections, then double click on your net connection, then details. Also winipcfg doesnt exist in xp as default. You need to download it seperately in the guise of wntipcfg. If its not an xp or nt based machine then fair enough.
