I use File Splitter to split files

works really well, but be aware you get 2 (or more) data files, rather than movie files, give it a try, you can specify how many parts, file sizes etc.

Thanks for the tip David but I need to be able to play each file. File Splitter seems only designed to split a file and then put the pieces back together.

Use TMPGENC - File > MPEG Tools. What you need will be in there.
