Is this a decent PC package?

And will it play the latest games to the max?

It looks like the package that would suit me but i want to know good and bad points about it first.

I could go instore and check things but i dont know jack about these things.

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/product/seo/100182

    It'd be ?1,259

it would play games but not at a very high detail the graphics looks more suited to because its a media centre machine.

you'd have to replace the graphics card and i doubt one would fit in that small case for the price you could get a very good pc base unit and tft monitor somewhere else

And this was on a quick search. I'm sure there are better deals and offers out there.

PC World are completely ripping you off at that price. You should be expecting near enough top-end everything (bar the monitor), and that includes a decent GPU.

You could get a cutting edge system if you build yourself for that price, or sort something out with someone who does.

Anyway... don't trust PC World. Take your time and do your research, and only purchase when you're sure you're getting what you pay for.

mate do not buy any PCs from PC world....i did about 4 years ago paid 1600 for one ( i didnt know sod all about PCs then).

Was fed a load of crap in the store and told it would play the latest games etc. The machine was rubbish, used the cheapest parts they could find and after 2 years i was practically buying a whole new PC again.

Mate build yourself one or get someone to do it for you....for that kind of money you could have a top notch gaming machine.

Please do not give pc world your money.....you WILL regret it.

look at the dectription....it doesnt say what type or make of memory....what make of motherboard etc etc...they use crap components.

Oh and dont bother to go intore the people who work there usually know sod all about PCs.....i like to go there now and again now i know a lot, just to test them out lol

Yep I agree, a guy across the road from me got one from them despite me finding him a killer PC at evesham.com they didn't even given him any form of windows cd, not even a restore disc, skanky fecks

A geforce 6200 for that amount of money is pretty shocking its like a ?40 graphics card.

I'll echo what others are saying, don't buy from PC World.

If you really know nothing about PC's and need an already made one then go to someone like Dell or Scan. At least they put better (branded) componants in their machines.

For the money you're looking to spend you should get a stonking games machine.

don't forget he would be getting a ?600 TV with that deal so the base unit would be around ?650 when you are giving him details of PC;s costing the full ?1200.

i'd say buy the TV from somewhere and spend the rest on a PC from a proper store or build it yourself.

                mesh do some good pc's

Oh man please dont buy off the shelf from PC World, the system mentioned above from OCUK will be far better value for money and performance. I built mine from components mainly from OCUK, being a Shuttle unit everything was more or less preinstalled, all I needed to do was add CPU, Mem and HDD, Ive never looked back and would never buy a prebuilt PC again unless its very specialized like the one above.

Another warning against PC World, I bought a laptop from them for what seemed a rather nice price some three years ago.

Not only did it have the audacity to become completely useless piece by piece (battery > ethernet > HDD > keyboard = ah!) but PC World had bought from some super obscure company somewhere and I couldn't find bugger all information about what was inside.

I would seriously recommend building your own, there is so much on the Internet nowadays and with SATA, PnP and the like it's very similar to LEGO.

Those overclocker systems look good but are tower only by the looks of it so would have to add monitor , speakers etc.
Never used them so dont know what build quality , service is like but this mesh looks pretty good and would play anything at max you could throw at it :

Another 'Avoid PC World' poster here. O.k. they do have some stuff cheap sometimes but on a system they'll skank you everytime.

One thing to remember about Pre-Built vs Home Build is the operating system, its the one thing usually missing from the costs of Home Build.

For almost the same price, I'm getting a laptop with a Geforce 7800GTX inside!

Yeh i went to PC world my dad got a computer when i was browsing other shop.....Specs were ok but it had a rubbish inbuilt 3d card.Which could not really play any 3d games.Even a geforce 2 mx would have been better then the one it had

But they said it could play any game

I would say avoid them to, I bought my first PC from Dixions, and thought afterwards to never buy from them again, in recent years they have got better and even did a gaming style PC, but on closer inspection it didnt offer the flexability of buying elsewhere and some components where cheap would bottleneck peformance.
