Get the original white PC Engine, they are the best looking, not sure about cost though.

Definitely the best looking, but the white Engine only outputs RF I think. It would need to be modded, plus a CDROM2 drive will cost you another stack of cash if you want to play some of the CD games. You'd probably need to pay through the ass for mint stuff since most kicking around are yellowed/discoloured.

A Japanese DUO-R would be the sensible option and still looks pretty good as well. About ?100-150 for a nice one.

you can get AV booster that plug on white PC Engine and output the composite.
Or use CoreGrafx that has the conposite output...

but really with money no objection PC Engine Duo-R/RX would do nicely as long as you don't need to play SuperGrafx titles - there are about 5-6 of 'em in total. PC Engine Duo-R/RX will run all the rest of PC Engine titles - hucard, CD2, SCD...

Thats going on my christmas list. Does that version play all the variations (or the majority of them)? Are the games region specific?

Like dj898 said, it will play about 95% of all PCE software as standard - All Japanese HuCards, CD games and Super CD games. Plus also American CDs (but not American HuCards).

Only thing you wouldn't be able to play would be the 6 SuperGrafx games - you need a SuperGrafx console for those, or the handful of Arcade CD games. But you can get an Arcade Card add-on to play those if you want.

Having the DUO is like having a Mega Drive, and Mega-CD, but not a 32X
