Looking to build this? is it any good?

    Guys,

Im going out next week to buy the components to build this and was wanting some feedback from you lot

    AMD 64 3500
    ASUS AN8-SLI DELUXE MOBO
    1GB DDR400
    200GB SATA
    7800GTX PCI-E CARD
(Tempted to SLI this but it adds like 300 to the cost)

Im looking at building the above for around 700

Anyone know where i can build this for cheaper? most bits sourced from my local pc hardware shop

Im reckoning it should be good for the Q4 and more things like FEAR and the latest games?!

    Sounds good to me.
Personally I'd go with an online retailer like Komplett. I've found that most local computer shops rip you off immensely, though you may have a good one nearby.
I did just build a system excluding the gfx card not too far under that spec for about ?300.

    AMD 64 3000
    MSI NForce4 Mobo
    512GB DDR
    160GB SATA
    Cheapest GFX card
Inwin C720 case (****ing awesome case!)

Sounds a bit like yours without the graphics card.
Shop around a bit online. See what you find.

overall mate thats a good system for that price. If you can spare it try and upgrade the processor a little, a 3700 perhaps. alternatively get a good cpu cooler and overclock it. amd 64's overclock like a mofo due to there fantastic cooling abilities.

wouldnt bother with the sli at the mo, a single 7800gtx will meet you needs plus you've always got the option later

You will struggle to get that spec for 700.

            Already sourced the bits

the gfx card is the main cost at like 300 quid lol

Thanks for the input guys ill have a look around

Im tempted by www.aria.co.uk and their system builder as it gives u 9 months 0% to pay it up or 36 months if u wanna pay some interest

            hmmmmmmm decisions decisions

If you wanted you could always go for a 7800GT instead of a GTX, the GT model is around 230 quid on OCUK I think. That way you could go for a faster cpu with the cash you save on your graphics card (and I seriously doubt the 7800GT is a slouch when it comes to performance).

              Just a thought

There is a gnat's bollock between a GTX and a GT in terms of performance, certainly not enough to justify the ?100 odd extra a GTX costs. You can get a GT for around ?215 inc VAT at overclockers.

I did have a 6800GT which i paid nearly the same amount for only 3 weeks ago luckily i found a buyer for the 6800Gt and got meself that 7800GT.

Gt for ?215 is not bad at all

Thanks for ebuyer link that looks the nutz, can i SLI those ?

EDIT : Ignore i see you can SLI them

Im not that clued up on the whole SLI thing

I need to use 2 identical cards yeah?

A word of warning about Aria, their after sales/returns sucks big time! I had a barebones unit fail on me and it was one of the worst experiences I've had with a pc seller. I'll never go with aria again.

A big thumbs up for Komplett though and to a lesser extent overclockers.

Im not 100% clear on SLI but i would assume they would need to be identical.

Im not sure whether that CPU would be able to get the most out of a SLI x2 7800GT. Im not sure whether it would even get the most out of a single 7800GT. I was thinking about getting a similar spec rig. But i realised that my TFT has a native res of 1280x1024 so anything higher which you would want from a double or even a single 7800GT rig would not be supported by my monitor. My current GPU is a 6800GT and it can handle the above res fine. If i were you i would probably put in a 6800GT. You could always whack in another one if you need to in the future. I would prob spend the money saved on a dual core CPU.
you can answer any q's you have about SLI on the imaginatively titled site below.

I was tempted to get an alienware system on 2 years finance, i was building a seriously bad ass mofo but it worked out bout ?140 a month

was giving me an athlon 4200 dual 7800 gts 2gb DDR 300 GB SATA 19" tft etc and ofc it looked the nutz
