A pal cube will output 480p if you are using an NTSC game and a freeloader.
The qoob chip can force PAL games into 480p

This is interesting, I thought the LE32R41BD was pretty good.
So if it's pants with RGB that puts me off big time, is this a general problem with LCD's or just this model?
I'm undecided between LCD and plasma, I read on another forum (RLLMUK) that most plasma's aren't even really HD (i.e. 1080i)
Sorry for the newbie questions (oh and hi everyone - first post!)

Hello and welcome. We should probably take the more general "what LCD?" discussion to the dedicated thread, but you're right; most plasmas are of a lower resolution to LCDs. Everything's a compromise at the moment, though.

(At least it seems to contain some sensible discussion)

My PS2 is now connected through component, and the difference in quality is huge, for the better. Unfortunately, it still looks like it's an N64 game half the time. I have a dodgy cheap cable, but I can't justify getting the Sony one because I can't believe it will make enough of a difference
Ugh.

I had a horrible time with non-official component cables. I've got an official PS2 one in the post right now, so hopefully that will improve things hugely. I'm surprised at how good PS2 SVHS is on this TV though, but I think it must depend upon what SVHS cable you have.
"Is 480p better than 576i? "
Yes, much much better. It's easy to spend time comparing numbers of lines, etc, but really the picture quality is a massive improvement in general. It's hard to believe it's only 480 lines when you see it running.

As for 480p, you're starting to sell it to me...
