need help - PC Engine Woe's

Recently i bought a system from Adrian (wheelaa) as i needed a decent system as the one i've already got is poor, but in the process of buying Adrians system i won a CG 2 from ebay

so i have 2 good systems - but there seems to be a problem and i dont know how to sort it

Wheelaa tested his system before it was sent and he told me it worked fine - so its all good. It arrived and it was just a bare console so i plugged it up to my television with the leads i already own and i get a great picture (well pc engine great) but absolutely zero sound - there is a faint noise if i turn the television all the way up but more background noise and distortion

so after speaking to Adrian he sent me out his spare lead that he normally uses just to try it out - great guy

    now:

Adrians lead was a 5 pin - red/white/yellow connectors (with a loose black one)
    my lead was a 5 pin - white/yellow connectors

i tried Adrian's pc engine and own pc engine on 2 separate televisions and the results where the same

    with my lead:
sound and picture fine on my system
no sound but great picture on Adrian's system

    with Adrian's lead
    nothing on my system
    nothing on Adrian's system

all i get is a deep noise/feedback from the speakers

but if i plug the white connector into the yellow socket on both televisions i can get sound through Adrian's PC Engine, which i thought was weird but obviously that makes Adrian's PC Engine fully working

i did try pulling out various connectors in a multitude of combinations

why cant i get it too work? - is there a hidden mute button on the PC Engine

all help will be super helpful

Anything else plugged into your tv? I know that with my DUO if i've anything plugged into the SCART socket I get the same almost-impossible-to-hear sound problem. With nothing else in there though all's fine.

mate I've pm'ed you already about this but will post here too so you see it. The configuration for the lead I sent is

black is video (ie usually yellow)

yellow and white are sound (ie normally red and white)

      red is not used

(as previously mentioned). If that doesn't work the pce is borked so plan b it

thanks for all - got it working

Mr Wheelaa told me the black goes into the yellow socket, tried that and it didnt work, but working on the ethics of wrong color tried all the rest and to get sound you have to put the yellow into the white socket

1 painting by numbers set getting set to Adrian for chrimbo
