I'd say that's serious overkill - it'll be an impressive system for sure but dual SLI cards really aren't something that's required as none of the current crop of PC games will push it anywhere near the purchase price. My X800 Pro runs pretty much everything at top settings and that's now last gen.

By the time a dual SLI system is being used to its full potential, there'll be cards and processors out that make it look antiquated. It'll never last 4 years because you always want to upgrade it (well based on my experience anyway )

I'd say you'll get a system for ?700 less that'll perform just as well - but hey, if you've got cash to burn.

4 years is an awful long time what with a new OS being around the corner and everybody pushing parallel processing without actually knowing what's going to be the best setup. I'd suggest saving some of the money back and waiting until you know what's going to be necessary for Windows Vista and what's actually beneficial for dual-core/dual-processor specific apps. Otherwise you run the risk of being the first person with redundant technology this time next year.

Having said that, if you absolutely HAVE to spunk ?2k on a PC right now then that looks like a killer setup.

yeah that is a good rig. But i just want to remind you. Ive got that same TFT and it is brilliant, but it has a native resolution of 1280x1024. i.e it cant take res's higher than this. therefore you wont be able to make the most of your dual graphics cards. Even a single 6800GT can handle the above mentioned res fine. If you wanna invest in a better TFT or go for a CRT monitor, then thats a different matter.

also, PC3200 ram is a dead end.

you want the same amount in DDR2...

?2000 is way to much to be spending on a PC, as you can quite happily get a machine that will play top end games for the next two years for ?800.

To be honest, i would recommend spending ?1000 less, having something that is good for 21/2 years and then spending ?500 then on whatever is necessary.

spend the other ?500 on a holiday...

That also seems like a lot for a machine that isnt much better than a standard ?1200 system. Im looking at a 19" 12ms screen and it was ?170 inc VAT. I would check out a Dell XPS or an Alienware......

or my ideal recommendation: buy a standard PC with a fast Athlon 64 chip, a great big HDD and lots of DDR2 RAM.

Stick a 7800GTX in it yourself, and buy a GIANT LCD (like a 26" widescreen) and be happy. Will cost the same money but dude...you will have a 26" widescreen PC.

Get one of those big giant gorgeous Apple screens!
              omgz amazing.

Oh, and yes, I agree: totally not worth it.
Spend about ?1000, maybe ?1200 absolute tops and you'll have a ridiculously (ridiculously!) good system.
Then put the rest of the money away and buy an upgrade in 3 years time.
A far better use of the money, if you ask me.

Or get a PC and a laptop, the number of times I've wanted to watch some DivX and do some surfing downstairs or while I'm travelling...

Or for 1500 pounds including tax and delivery get a top end laptop with a 7800 GTX card inside for ultimate showing off to mates! A typical setup for around the price I said: P4 3.5Ghz equivalent CPU - 1gig DDR2 Ram - 100gig 7200rpm HDD - 7800GTX Graphics card - 17 inch screen...

Also just around the corner are dual core laptops which seem very interesting too.

It's all a matter of interest though, some people use laptops only, others won't go near them. Personally I love 'em and the thought of being able to play the latest and greatest games anywhere around the house/garden and easy transport for LAN games to mates house wins hands down.

                      Ack decisions decisions

yeah your probs right about me blowing such a big amount ill maybe cut that down

the idea of gettin a laptop actually sounds superb tbh, ive never thought about getting one but if i could get one that would happily run things like quake 4 and COD2 etc then i would be converted

plus we live in a 1bed flat and gettin rid of the whole pc unit would really make a difference lol

I've got a new laptop coming on friday and can't wait! All the benchmarking clearly marks out that top end laptops can now quite easily play any of the latest games.

Just look around the net at forums and some company websites.

Mate, I would seriously lower your spec and get one of those 20 or 24" Dell Ultrasharps if you dont get a monster lappy instead.

Ha ha aye thats my other dilema

I cant really justify spending the cash when i keep thinking i could spend a few hundred and just get a basic pc for the web etc and then get a 360 and save myself the hassle of the pc cash drain
