Advice required--PCI-E card wtd ?140 to spend

    Hi all

after a new graphics card as mine will only play at low resolution with detail down, and id like atleast 1280 x 1024 with details set towards the higher on bf2 and q4 etc

    have a

    p4 3.2ghz
    1 gig memory
    ati x600 pro 128meg

what would u recommend, looking at a x850gto 256meg would this be ok or is there something better?

and how much would i get if i sell my x600 on ebay?

    regards

    jason

    Slightly more but the Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 GTO? 256MB DDR3 TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-101-SP) is worth a look at ?150ish.

The x600 is I'd imagine worth between ?15 to 40 maybe, based on what x550/700's go for new.

im looking to buy one of these so i thought id start up a thread for those of you who are getting these this week to post what your mods, clocks and 3Dmark scores are... in doing so youl be helping those of us who havent quite made up our minds about this card yet... ;) Thankoo....

I didn't think there was a X850 Gto? Assumed it to be a typo.

The X850 XT/X850 XT PE are still available but are over ?200, and therefore I assumed out of your budget. But yes they would be slightly better and faster cards. To be honest if your budget stretches over ?200 then go for the Nvidia 7800 GT. Easy choice.

        Hope that helps.

I hope to get a agp version of X850 does it offer a massive increase over the 9800?

yes - i came from a 9800 pro to this card, and the jump was massive. the only game to give me a problem recently is F.e.a.r - and that is due to memory (i think) - dropped the framerate and it now runs like a dream (no stuttering - framerate rock solid - fraps claims its running between 55 and 60fps during major fire fights).

Quake 4 is perfection, as are one or two more games which I can't discuss yet

Only problem is - the price isn't dropping on these yet, if anything its going up (the one I bought was ?320 quid, its now ?345 and out of stock), I have the AGP version - thinking about upgrading my mobo, but need one with agp on it rather than pci-e (unless anyone knows of a mobo with both slots)

Well i was hoping to buy a AGP verson i check ebay/dabs/ebuyer regulary but still the same price. But as you said the price is not dropping

Dont know why really what with the geforce 7800 out and the new ati cards due soon.
What with X3 already out and oblivion out soon i will probably have to upgrade

Thing is after the x850 agp i would have to upgrade the motherboard to a pci express one.Feels like its being forced upon us.I dont know if there will be any more agp cards released for the next generation cards
