Playstation 1 laser Query

Ive run a search and cant find threads similar to this or an answer so just wondering if anyone can help me.

Ive Got my old style PS1 and it plays some games and some dont even load at all, now im wanting to replace the laser in this but the unit is chipped.

does this have any effect on changing the laser or is the chip seperate to the laser??

also anyone know any websites or can give me information on how to fit a new laser??

also what about prices??

very pricey tho. buy a cheap ps and take the laser out.

you could just get a pal unit from gamestation or wherever and swap it over

This is probably the best solution. Bear in mind that not all PS1 laser units will fit all machine models - the ribbon cable on some of the units is longer than others, so if you have machine which needs a longer cable then a laser with a short cable is going to be useless to you.

Just opened it up and its a long cable, what model number should i be looking to get for a correct type of laser ??

I would say get the same model as the one you have.

Its piss easy, Pull the wire out, lift laser unit out, put new laser in, plug wire back in. Sorted
