Multiplayer in a Japanese DS?

The NDS product description in Play-Asia says:

Wireless compatibility to US Nintendo DS? consoles.

Is that really the case? If I buy a Japanese DS what can I expect from local multiplayer and internet gaming?

The consoles are, to the best of my knowledge and experience of a few others, universal. The software itself may not be cross-compatible to play with different territory versions. You'll sometimes find JP software not compatible with US software for multiplayer, but as far as the actual wireless ability goes it should be universal.
