    Wireless routing help?

    http://www.blankdiscshop.co.uk/acata...ork.html#a1827

I want to share my broadband (not cable) connection with my XBOX 360 when I get one, and also be able to share files to/from pc/360.

Is the link I posted above all I'd need? It says I need a network adapter, I'd assume I'd have one built in, if not, what am I looking for? Despite being okay with PC's I've never done networking in my life!

I really wanna stream pc -> 360 though, so will this do? Seems a good price as well and it will (obviously) also allow me to put my pc in a different room to the phone line.

Is there any speed loss using these though?

yeah that will do the job, if you have a modern laptop you will have wifi built in i expect so you can connect, or a normal PC will have a ethernet network card so you can just do a wired connection to that if this suits you

the 360 will need a wireless ethernet bridge to connect the 360 up with the wireless router, m$ are selling a branded one which is small and dinky and i assume doesn't need a extra PSU - or you can get a linksys/netgear bridge which will be cheaper and do the same thing

remember to get G rated devices for maximum transfer speeds (not B), personally i would recommend this:

    (probs cheaper on eBuyer)

Couple of options. Cheapest could be this

      - Wireless Router (premuming ADSL?). Connect this to the XBox via network cable.

      - Either a USB dongle or a wireless PCI card for your PC.

Set up the router from your PC, Xbox will then have an 'always' connected internet connection.

A combined router and usb/pci card should come in at around ?50. Buying a router and a network bridge will come in at doule that.

So ALL I'd need is the thing you posted and a cable, and obviously the 360 networking unit?

You'll notice that there is a USB wireless adapter available for free with this. It should come with a cable already.

If you are going to use the USB option make sure you have usb 2.0 on your PC as USB 1.1 is only 11MB

            So...

I buy that router from amazon. Connect it to my pc with the cable supplied, then I can share my connection (and pc contents) with the 360 if I buy the wireless networking cable for the 360?

            Is it really that simple?

            PC -> CABLE -> ROUTER.

360 + Wireless cable = Picks up data/internet via the wireless router?

              Not quite.

Phone ----> Router -----> 360 by network cable
              !
              !
              ! = wireless connection
              !
              !
              USB Adapter -----> PC

PC and 360 get access to internet via router

PC and 360 on the same network so can tranfer/stream files

Are the "!'s" wireless space so to speak?

The one on amazon comes with a free wireless USB adapter anyway, so thats cool.

Where does my current adsl modem come into this, or doesn't it? Am I likely to lose any speed using wireless?

Bottom line then, since the amazon one comes with a free usb adapter, all I need to buy is that item and the 360 wireless adapter...

the ! are wire less and were supposed to be between the USB and the router

You only need to order the router above (with free USB thingy). You don't need the 360 connector as you can hardwire the router to the 360 and run your PC wirelessly via the USB.

Download speed will be the same, you may have minor latency issues on your pc but not horrendous.

Thanks for you help Mr Sanchez, much appreciated.

So, until I get my 360 I can just have my PC set up wireless-ley with the router near my tv/console area. Only thing is, although its more expensive, I may have to do it the other way round and wire into my pc, and wireless the 360 since my phone line is nearer to the PC than where the 360 will be. Thanks though mate

If I get another PC I can just shove a dongle (usb) into is ass and get wireless on that too? Awesome.

I was thinking of putting my old pc connected to our bedroom TV to watch divx etc on it without the need for a dvd player!
