    Swap trick on a psOne?

Probably the most basic stupid end-user question ever, but is the disc swap trick possible on a psOne? Does it function in exactly the same way as the original models? I've tried a method found on gamefaqs and come up blank so far, which is a pain in the backside.
Any responses along the lines of "Just get a chip" will be treated with the contempt they deserve

Im pretty sure i used the swap method on me old psone ages ago

Its just a case of waiting till the piracy screen passes on teh legit one then qucik swap to the illegal one and another swap i think

are you pushing something into the wee sensor that the lid clicks into so it thinks the lid is closed?

I'm not looking to use pirated games, just imports on my PAL machine.
I was sure that you wait for the second noise to come, which is where the black screen comes which is a confirmation that the disc is legit and then you swap the disc, but I just can't get it in the right place at all.
At least the Saturn has a disc read light which means you can tell exactly when you swap discs
And yeh of course the sensor's down all the time

To do the swap trick on a ps1 you're better of with a boot disc that will automatically stop at the right point, the equivalent of a Dc-x or freeloader. To do it with just a local region disc involves pulling out the disc while it's still running and it can and probably will break your drive motor. I speak from experience, my first Japanese Ps1 got screwed up doing this.

Of course, I'd actually have to buy this boot disc, would I not, because a cd-r wouldn't run in a psOne that doesn't have a chip in, right?
I might as well just fit a chip.

No, you can get a boot disc that works on psone called psx-change,and you dont need a chip to run it. raven games do them for about ?20, it works on most games, not all tho, and it wont play any games that are on more than one disc. Its pretty much like the dcx boot disc.

                TWENTY QUID?
I can get a chip for free and fit it in about 20 minutes.
I don't have any desire to play pirated games anyway, so I can be perfectly happy and ethical about fitting my chip for playing imports.

Well ?20 from raven games probably a lot cheaper elsewhere. Thought you didnt want to chip it though?

I don't, but if there's no reliable swap trick method that's easy to do then I might as well coz like I say it's free and a 20 minute job. I really don't think I should have to pay extra money to someone to play legitimate games on a legitimate system, both of which I've paid for. Ah well. Thanks for your replies anyway guys.

I used to have a boot disc called PS-X-Change which worked perfectly, but it's very hard to come by and actually goes for quite a lot of money now if I remember correctly. I think I bundled it in with my PSone when I sold it

It worked on both the PS and PSone, and just had a little thing that held the tray closed button down so that it always thought it was closed. You'd load up the disc, wait for it to tell you to swap discs (all it did was bypassed the boot stuff and then stop the disc spinning so that you could grab it out), and then change them over and press start. If only imports were always that easy and cheap.

How much do the PSXChange disks sell for now?

Anyhow they're a good alternative to chipping and a much better alternative than doing a disk swap.

You can play multi disk games provided you can save prior to swapping disk - most games allow you to do this. If you want to play any games that detect modchips you need the version 2 which allows you to insert action replay codes, however with no way of saving the codes it really is a pain to use.

Is there a list anywhere I could check out?
