NFS most wanted install prob

Got this today from gameplay but havnt been able to play it because of a strange prob in install. I enter the serial number correctly click next then agree the licence agreement then a box flashes up saying the game cant install as i dont have directX 9.0c installed . I knew for a fact i did but reinstalled it anyway from microsoft website but still the same message any ideas ? cheers

Basically, you need to run the installer in Win 2000 compatibility mode.
