    XBOX Live Connection

To connect my 360 to my wireless router do I need a wireless access point (with Ethernet) or a wireless ethernet bridge? Are the both the same and if not what is the difference? Can anyone recommend me a cheap one that does the job as the MS one is too expensive!

Get the official one then, it supports wireless A which is almost double the speed of G. Thats future proof

            No it isn't.

Wireless A is illegal in the UK.

            Regards,
            Neil.

              Really

Dual band 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz Wireless A/B/G home network compatible
              http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/hardware/x...er/default.htm

              funny that.

Funny that 20 minute long interview I watched with the developers of the MCE integration for xbox 360. it was all they harped on about.

Think A and G are comparible speed, it is just said that A suffers less from house hold interference than G and therefore is more stable for high speed transfer. Had no idea that it was illegal, guess that is the reason it is nearly impossible to find a router which supports is here !

A good linksys 802.11G bridge is going to set you back about ?54 http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/produ...duct_uid=54230 so I decided to opt for the official unit, especially as it plugs so neatly into the 360, and does not require a dedicated power supply ! Best price I found was at play ?54.99 delivered, less than the above linksys ! http://www.play.com/play247.asp?pa=r...0&title=719752

Wireless A is illegal to use in the UK. Its the same speed as g but broadcasts on 5GHz rather than 2.4Gz that Wireless b and Wireless g uses. If you use a you will be caught and face a prison sentance! (the bandwidth is used by the milatary).

It would seem ofcom removed the restriction on 802.11a as did the rest of Euorpe last year http://www.techworld.com/mobility/fe...ge=1&pagepos=2

no they didn't, and that article is misleading.

Anything that has 802.11a on it is illegal.

Anything that has 802.11h is legal, there are significant differences.

                        Neil,

I'll take your word for it, was just having a quick search around on google, zdnet link seems to say the same thing !

Amazed that MS are releasing the same unit here with 802.11a advertised on it if this is the case. May switch mine on get busted and then sue MS for the mental stress which they caused me !
