Can ping address but cannot resolve in a browser?

Funny 1 this, i can ping and alias i added into DNS but for some reason it wont resolve in any browser. This only happens in 1 machine, everyone else can resolve it OK. I have disabled the firewall. flushed dns on the local machine and reloaded dns on the server but nooope. Whats happening?

To make matters worse, it ocasionaly works for a few hours then stops again for no reason

Does it have an incorrect entry in the hosts file? (%systemroot%\system32\drivers\etc)

If not put one in there, it won't answer why it fails but it might fix it.

I assume the DNS settings on the problem PC are o.k. (ie nothing in the network setting overriding DHCP settings).

Manually set the DNS server to our internal box, which solved it. Turns out the LAN card was by-passing our DNS server and going straight to an external Demon 1.

        Very odd

        oh well, there you go

I'd move into development but i got confused with pointers in C. I might have another go with a different language instead.

SQL Server i'm fine with, stored procedures, normalisation no problem

Finding C# tough going though, it just doent fit with the way my mind works, if you know what i mean.

Im Mirosoft up to my eyeballs here at work, so switching languages isnt really gonna be much use to me.

shame as i find Java much easier
