Pal 576 support & region locking

is there support for Pal 576 in the dashboard?

also, somebody out there who owns a Pal 360 machine and ntsc 360 games, is the thing region locked?

Seems to default to 576p, actually.

But all the games are made in 720p, which would mean that it's the Pal 360 hardware that does 576 downscaling, and the Ntsc 360 does 480 scaling?

If it's the case, then it would mean the end of shoddy pal conversions, and perhaps also less delay time for 360 games in europe.

My TV says so. Detects it as 576p @ 50Hz.

The 720p mode is definately 60Hz though, before someone asks.

whould support the theory that it's the Pal 360 hardware specifically that does the Pal conversion, and games in europe come in 720p 60hz per default.

is it the case of ridge only, or are all games region free?

But, region free (hopefully)and hardware pal downscaling, Microsoft is truly showing the way it should be done, and hopefully nintendo and sony will follow suit.

Can you set the console to do 576p at 60hz as well?

wudnt it be 480p at 60hz? I don't think the TVs support 576p at 60hz (same as interlaced, that was the reason PAL gamers always used to get borders, 60hz runs in a lower res than 50hz)

Any word on standard res in-game yet? i.e. are we all at 480i/p/60hz now or do 50hz options still exist?

Yes you're quite right I wasn't thinking. I'll rephrase the question and echo what Tychom asks above in which case. Can you set the console to run a standard definition resolution at 60hz or are those without HDTVs stuck with only being able to play games at 50hz?

When using the standard cables it gives you the option for 50 and 60 hz.

So what about people with EDTV's (480p only) they are basically locked out from taking full advantage of their displays. If you use the component cable on a standard def set does it give you the option of 50 and 60Hz?

And how good a job of conversion to 50Hz does the hardware do? where does it leave Live and LANs? 50Hz people vs 60Hz people etc.
