Getting one this side of Xmas?

A strange situation, you would of thought that M$ would want to get as much an installed base up and running as soon as possible than provide blatantly too few consoles for retailers to meet demand. Anyways, does anyone have any info perhaps gained from talking to retailers or suppliers as to the liklehood of there being systems available this side of Christmas?

Personally Ive not pre-ordered, and adopted a 'wait and see' viewpoint but it would be nice to think that M$ are making steps to fulfill the demand for the product at this point in time.

I wouldn't have thought so if you're interested in the premium pack, most retailers are talking about 2006 restocking, if at all (premium packs are limited by design as I'm sure you know). Your best bet would probably be with a core pack, although they seem to sell out pretty fast once places get more stock in.

The guy in HMV Enfield today said MS rang them sheepishly and said that 4 scheduled pre xmas deliveries were cancelled,as they are going to the flagship stores,Oxford Circus etc...

TBH, it doesn't guarantee getting one anyway. Especially if you use Amazon.

My Gameplay preorder 'seems' (very skeptical) to be in the 'second allocation' that is coming before Christmas. Considering someone who preordered theirs 2 days after me (August) is unlikely get one before Xmas, I don't see how you're going to walk into a store and just buy one until February sometime.

I dunno. I get the feeling that Gameplay's preorder system is flawless but they simply can't do anything because, as an online retailer, they are and will be receiving a tiny number of consoles. Such a sorry state of affairs.

yeah actual shops will be stocked first. it was disappointing today not getting a machine but it just shows not to launch a few weeks between regions. so stock can build up

What excuse did PSP and PS2 stock problems have? There are always going to be shortages for anticipated products, even if they were sold in the US alone. Microsoft did the right thing by doing the worldwide launch, but didn't do the right thing by leaving details of everything to the last minute.

I think your best bet is gonna be Comet.

I spoke to one of the guys in my local Comet and he said just keep checking back weekly as they are not taking pre-orders. First come, first served!

Though for me I will probably not get one now for some time, if at all. I was looking forward to getting some good game time in over Xmas. When I get back to work in the new year I'm gonna be too busy to appreciate the 360, and by the time my next holiday comes around we may be looking at the PS3 or Rev on import.

Don't you mean Core? I'd guess Premium packs (or a 360/HD/component cable pack near-equivalent) will eventually become the standard pack that's sold. It wouldn't make sense for it to be Core.

I'd say it's very likely Q2 2006, 360 non-Cores will be far more available than they are presently. After all, what's the point of this lead time if Microsoft are going to face the shortages existing now well into 2006?

They're owned by GAME. Hence, I'd assume all ordering would be done centrally by GAME and then they'd allocate the appropriate number of units to Gameplay. I assume GAME are more likely to want to stock their stores in order to get people in there than Gameplay
