My laptop is slow!! please help me.

when i got to CTRL+ALT+DEL (windows task manager) i can see that there are loads of processes and not just that i seem to have these IMAGE NAME files called IEXPLORE.EXE when i "END PROCESS IT" after a while it comes back!

But thats not it, there a ****ty file called explorer.exe and it seems to increase "Mem Usage" but i dont understand why and how it does this even when im not connected to the internet, it seems to eat the CPU or MEM USAGE and really slow down the laptop.

    Please can anybody help me?????????????????

Are you kidding? IEXPLORE.EXE is Internet Explorer, which is either your web browser, or some other application is using parts of it.

explorer.exe is basically the Windows interface; the start menu, taskbar, "My Computer" etc.

Both files have always been memory hogs, but explorer will be bigger if you're using themes of any kind.

      usual predictable suggestions;

Delete any unused files on your hardrive, run Defrag.
Go to start menu, run, type msconfig, go to last tab and see what starts up on boot and see if any of them can be turned off.
Otherwise a memory upgrade probably wouldn't go amiss, did my laptop world of good.

I always do this on slow machines - right click My Comp/Properties/Advanced/Performance and untick everything but the last three tickboxes. you retain the look of XP but gain a lot by turning off stuff you dont need.

Also run a updated adaware from lavasoft, its possible the pc is riddled with spyware etc

well that doesnt work man! i do have lavasoft but when its active and im on the net, it just eats and eats the memory usage, well not the ad aware prog but explorer.exe and sometimes exceeds 140,000 K mem usage! i dont think i need more RAM as i have 240 RAM and about 11 GIG out of 20 GIG hard space!!!

what is it slow doing in particular ? also you on XP ? what processor ?

256mb memory isn't enough for much tbh, a 256 or 512mb upgrade would help I'me sure.

This thread has got to be a joke surely.

                Here's a tip:

Click Start, click Run, type regedit, click OK

Now navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE --> Software --> Microsoft --> Windows --> Current Version --> Run

Now post a screenshot of that Run key.

This will tell you what programs run when Windows starts up and you can see if you've got an naughty apps.

press the print screen button - then goto start/run type in mspaint and press enter - then in paint goto edit/paste and it should paste the screenprint into the program, then file/save as save to jpeg and then post the picture on the board here by selecting the advanced option when you post and manage attachments
