PS2 - read disc error & HD loader?

Hi,

My ps2 is on its way out, the lens keeps giving me disc read errors but sometimes the games do load. My question is -

Will I be able to use HD loader to still play games on the PS2 even though the lens is on its way out?

Only if it can read the HD loader disc I presume.

Is the disc a CD or DVD as the CD lens still works a treat?

I'd always assumed it was a DVD, as it doesn't make the usual din you get when loading a CD - can't check right now though.

If the CD lens still works fine, then I'd recommend using the Independance Exploit (which requires a PS1 game in the CD drive) to boot the latest free HDLoader, rather than buying the old version.
