    super famicom problem

i recently got a super famicom of ebay, but have a problem. Once it is all connected up there is nothing. The red light is on but there is no picture on the TV, i am using an rgb scart that i got off ravengames site which stated it was for jap and usa snes systems. Anyone have any advice? Thanks a lot

Have you tried it with composite?

You need to rule out the cable being a problem, if you get nothing with a composite cable then you know it is ****ed.
You can use a Pal GC cable too btw.

Might also be the game. Try another.

also try giving the contacts a clean. I usually get a black screen with dirty carts.

Do you get a sync signal at all i.e. the screen's black but it's obviously synced to 60Hz instead of receiving no signal?
If so then giving it a good clean's definitely the way to go.
If you're not even getting a sync signal something else is up with it.

Well i wouldnt presume it to be the cable, as the RGB cable I use for my SFC is also from Raven Games. As long as it's a full 21-pin job then should be fine (even if its not should still work just crappy picture).
The most obvious would be dirty contacts as lurch says.
It could also be something else, bear with me while i hamfistdly explain this, I have modded a couople of Snes's with 50/60 switches and security chip mods, if this is done incorrectly can lead to some not all games not running at all, think its something to do with security chip? But ig the SFC has never been opened thats one to rule out straight away. I'd suggest a clean, you can use a small amount of neat alcohol very carefully or just a damp cloth.
              good luck

Yeah, I was recomended this, and those crappy cleaning kits you used to buy in the mid-90's for the Snes & Megadrive were similar, they had alcohol cloths or carts with that type of substance on the contacts. I haven't tried it so can't comment! Might just need a good wipe! Or try a google search on SNES cleaning!

Or perhaps something like this: http://store.gameasylum.us/snclkitforsu.html

But seems like a bit of a rip-off to me!
                    Good luck!

Have you actually tried what everyone has said so far???

                        1. tried it with a different cable?
                        2. tried a different scart socket?
                        3. tried a different cart?

Right through it? Is your SFC made of paper?
Just keep pushing in and ejecting the cart over and over for a ltitle while then try turning it on, it should clean the slot and cart.
Are all the pins in there?

yes right through the casing and into the heart of the thing, sometimes i don't know my own strength (it was only a light whack as well) , although a positive thing that i can take from this is that it seems all those years of exercise and weight lifting must have paid off .

Just ordered one off VGI which i really should have done in the first place

My SNES was backed over by my mum's old Ford Estate and didn't suffer a bit.
                              Are you an ogre?
