Super Famicom power adapter - runs hot?!

I recently bought a SFC. All good. However Im a little concerned about the Hori power adapter that came with it. It meets all the power specs for the super famicom (DC10v 850mA) but runs incredibly hot after an hour or so. Its running off a play-asia stepdown convertor.

Could it be faulty? Or do all the older power adapters run hot? Im comparing it to my GCN, PS2 and N64 power supplies - which dont get anywhere near as hot.

Could it be a faulty stepdown convertor? Or would that just kill the SFC rather than make the hori power ac uber hot?

Games have been running perfectly so the console itself appears to be getting its power requiremnts. Im guessing the stepdown must be working okay cause if it was outputting 220volts from the mains the SFC wouldnt work for long - if at all (i imagine).

Are US and Jap plugs the same? Can I get a SNES replacement AC from the USA and use it with my play-asia step down convertor and SFC?

    Thanks
