Unconfirmed addresses on PayPal - Sending eBay items ok??

    Well here's the story,
I have just sold an item on ebay and a guy has paid me via PayPal immediately. However, after checking his bidding lately he hasn't bought an item for over a year and has provided me with an unconfirmed address to send the item to.

After checking the PayPal invoice it says that he wants me to post to an Unconfirmed address which as I understand it, means I am ineligible for PayPal's seller protection policy which would cover me in the case of fraud.

Now I have done the sensible thing and e-mailed him and asked for a confirmed address but if he doesn't, what is the sensible thing to do?
Since the money is in my account, how could he claim it back if I banked it? Additionally if I sent it recorded delivery, surely I would have proof he received it if I keep the tracking number?

I sense there is something fishy going on here and I think that he's going to say that he hasn't received it or something and try and claim his money back. Or am I just overreacting?

What should I do? Has anyone ever had this happen to them before?

I think you can simply withdraw the cash into your bank account (all of it) and wait until it is there, and then send the goods. If he does do a chargeback, I'm sure your acocunt just goes into a negative figure, so you have to open a new one.

Never done this before though, only read this, so check with someone else before doing this.

I've sent to unconfirmed addresses before, probably without thinking. Depending on the amount i'd be a bit cautious. For less than ?30 i'd send it, for more i'd ask for some proof especially if your flogging a spare 360 or something.

Depends on what your selling really.

I once sold a PSP for around 200, and had a buyer who paid immediately after buying, checked if he was confirmed or not, and turned out he wasnt. Then checked his feedback (was zero and signed up on the same day he bought it. Then checked his buying history and he had bought 2 more PSPs, so knew it was a scammer, so refunded the money. He was suspended the next day and Paypal told me it was a fraudulent transaction.

Its best to ask for a different method of payment for a high value item, otherwise Paypal should be fine.

And some buyers in certain countries cant become 'confirmed' as Paypal doesnt have the system to do it in their country.

I always use the feedback to decide, scroll over it even if it says 100% happy, if it's mainly small sales and the item on auction is medium - high value, then it may be a scam account ofc.
