    Cleaning the TV Recomendations Post

    Hey all,

Is it possible to clean the tv recomendation thread, I don't think there is 1,320 posts in there that are relevant and help people buy a tv. Not having a go, but the likes of "you forgot to say" or "I agree" don't really contribute to what would be an excellent point of interest to anyone buying a new tv...

    Just my 2p

Thought this was a thread about cleaning TVs
Anyway, you mean something like a review of the TVs that each member has?

        Speakeasy buddy.

If we start cleaning up all the threads that are full of crap, there will be nothing left.

If you want my honest opinion then yes there is a lot of that! I remember debating it with Charlesr a long time ago when I first started reading the forums. It was also one of the reasons they got rid of the post counter! But that isn't really the topic I wanted to spark off. I just wondered if we could have this specific sticky cleared as I am really interested in reading the post but 1320 posts and most of them contributing nothing seems like a bit of a shame and detracts from the point of it being a sticky?

All in my humble opinion which doesn't count for much and yes there are other forums, posts and articles I could read etc.....

I guess it's a natural thing for a forum with a huge amount of people and it's a credit to the success and ethos of the site. Thread cleaning may well disrupt that and where would it end? Who would moderate it, who would hand spammers tissues as their posts get swept away and who deems what adds value and what doesn't. I remember nearly crying with laughter at someones posts about buying a shed to house thai brides and then posting a picture of a shed. Totally awesome witt and yet no added value etc.

We don't know what could be considered to be 'meaningful' and not. The mods could take out a comment that they might think is not contributing to the thread, yet someone else might find that info/question useful.

Anyway, it also means the mods have to spend a fair amount of their time trying to clean it up. Do what I do, go back to a certain date (say 2 months before now), and go to the page on the thread that conversations for that month start on, and read from there.

No desire to have that job, but there's a thread on AVForums.com for example which summarises and links thru to the main points in a massive thread on the Toshiba xxZD range.

That would probably be useful, but again, who particularly wants that job?

Sorry, but unless one of mods has a couple of hours to spare it's not going to happen. Cleaning threads up like that is a real pain in the neck, even if you list the post numbers because they aren't listed on the split thread option, and that only lists the first few words of each post. Deleting a post sends you back to the first post of the thread again.

You're just going to have to live with it

D'oh, thanks for the reply dude. I'll have a read when I have some time spare. I'll also clean my tv tonight .

It's a difficult topic, hard to police, and is always going to happen. I've probably posted crap up and I'm certainly going to think twice about some of my posts from now on!
