    VGA only 640 x 480?

I have a Loewe Mimo 32" Tv which I got last summer and it's the dogs danglies for TV.

I was thinking about getting the VGA card apapter fitted in it but noticed that it says it supports up to 640 x 480...can this be right? If so it's basically useless I am assuming...

    Also the TV manual says:

    3 Euro AV Scarts:

    1 component: Video input ready

    2 RGB ready

    What exactly does that mean?

    Any insights much appreciated.

If it's not an HDTV, then it won't support anything more than 640x480. (480p)

This TV? If it is then the res would be no more than 640*480. I don't think any CRT has a higher res.

Yes, thats the one...so whats my best option for running a 360 on it...is it still worth getting a vga connection over a scart?

And what does the component ready scart refer to?

No point getting VGA for that TV, it wouldn't look particularly good at 640*480.

If you want decent high def, then buy yourself a cheap PC monitor and hook up a VGA cable to that.

                480p is 720 x 480, not 640 x 480(VGA). The TV should still display it however.
The Component via SCART is lowband only, 576i/480i. It can't support progressive.

Loewe TVs can often support a variety of VGA options, but they aren't very well advertised. My Aconda can go up to 800 x 600 quite happily and some other wierd resolutions, but interlaced . The only problem is that any VGA image is 4:3 only and it's a 16:9 TV which means you lose loads of screen.

VGA will be cleaner than SCART, but it's still going to be very low res and chunky on that TV.

I run my 360 on a 20" Dell W/S flat panel PC monitor through VGA. (2005FPW is the model number). Looks great, and is of course in HD.

                      Thanks all.

Kotatsu, are you happy with the Dell? I was just searching around the web and see its got lots of good reviews, also on offer at the moment.

                        Hey Gareth,

I've got the same monitor and am very happy with it.

Yeah it's a great screen. It uses the same panel as the Apple 20" cinema, so you can imagine the quality tests it must have gone through. The Apple casing is much prettier though, but to balance it out the Dell has all those useful extra inputs, and it's cheaper too.

Go for the 24" one though.

Not sure I can afford the 24" right now to be honest...been an expensive 12 months with new computers and gadgets and a wedding on top!

Plus I think only the 20" is on offer right now.

                            Cheers again guys.

640 X 480 VGA input is only useful for Dreamcast or Gamecube with VGA cable (only 480p games)
