This is a way that a lot of arcade players play as it requires minimal movement to execute a move. Obviously, it would take getting used to instead of slamming the stick from direction to direction so maybe you could try that method Superbrother and see if it makes any difference.

I'm going to give it a try for sure anyway.
I realise that, I know some VERY good DC stick players too...

But how long is it going to take an amatuer like me to get used to that?

Did he mention how he found the buttons on the HORI? 8)

That's going to take some getting used to!
I'm very much a "smasher" when it comes to stick action (among other things like driving, DIY, bedroom antics etc.)

No I didn't ask him about the buttons sorry. I can't imagine them being much different from the DC stick really. I think they might be fractionally smaller in size, sure I read that somewhere (well there are 8 of them and they take up more space hehe). Could be wrong. Papercut will be your best bet to ask methinks.

As for changing your playing style give it a go. I'm an amateur too

More thoughts on the Hori FS EX:

the stick gate is in fact square shaped. It is almost indistinguishable from the Sega DC Arcade stick.

the buttons do offer slightly more resistance, are placed slightly closer together, have a slightly smaller diameter, and are raised slightly higher compared to the DC stick. The keyword here is slightly, there really isn't much in it.

they are both great sticks. For the sake of having 8 buttons, if you can, I'd recommend getting the EX.

Right, this should help Heres some shots so you can see for yourselves:

Holy ****, I never knew Hari made an Xbox stick. I'm considering it now purely for CvS2 on Live...

And for those thinking about the X-Arcade -- don't do it. I used it at the company's stand at ECTS last year, and it's a horrid, horrid stick. The buttons are awful and heavy, and the stick's movement is in a circle, rather than a square that the DC's stick and the infamous Tekken 4 stick moves in. IT JUST FEELS SICK AND WRONG

Is that an official one? What exactly is better about it?
