    Xbox 360 playing hi-def from DVD-R?

I take it that it is within the realms of possibilities to burn a 720p WMV file to DVD and have the Xbox play that in high definition, yes?

If so, roughly how much high quality 720p footage can fit on a normal DVD-R? I would quite happily purchase an X360 if I can get some TV shows running in high definition (obviously providing a source for high definition clips/shows are available).

Will these clips play in HD on the Xbox360 if I burn them to DVD?

But I have forgotton about the DRM stuff, that'll scupper things won't it?

Can the Xbox 360 play WMVs?

If so you should be able to in theory (although I don't own a 360 so I could be totally wrong). If it can only play MPEG-2 then you'll need to obtain Canopus Procoder and convert the WMVs. This will only work for ones that aren't DRM'd.

I'm now hearing that the Xbox360 will not play videos from DVD-R - only downloaded clips onto the hard drive, and streamed stuff from MCE. Bummer.

What about using a file management software to copy from DVD R to hard drive ?

          Just to bump this thread:

Is it possible to play AVI or WMV files on the 360 from an external HDD?

I'd love to play HD videos through the 360.

Don't think so. The 360 can only play video's from your PC using the Media Center Extender, or trailers downloaded from the marketplace.

It's not worth the bother anyway, you can only use WMV - who uses that anyway?
