    Failed PS2 chipping

    Hiya.

I got my PS2 chipped, and now it's ****ed. I took to a place over on Tottenham Court Road, the same place that did my Xbox chipping without any problem. Picked it up today, brought it home, and now it won't play anything. The laser clicks and groans, then it goes back to the browser menu.

When I took it in, the fella scowled a little, and reckoned that my PS2 was some six years old - first gen stuff - and so it would be tricky to do, and I'd need to use an Action Replay in conjunction with it, too. I said fine. He said fine. Now I've brought it home, and even the Action Replay disc he's given me doesn't seem to work in the console.

Where do I stand on this? Obviously, I'm taking it back to him tomorrow, but what's my position in terms of demanding that he do something about it?

Unless you dropped it on the way home, or you are really unlucky and the laser died after he tested it and you picked it up, its faulty workmanship.

Sounds like hes fobbing you off, age or no age it should still work. What chip did he fit? I imagine it was a Messiah clone to cut costs. He should have told you that an Action Replay was needed if it was before the work was done. These days theres no reason at all to fit a chip that requires the AR.

If the age was a problem he should have pointed it our beforehand. When people talk about older PS2s having faulty lasers, they mean older PS2s die faster if you use copied games (DVD-Rs etc). That obviously hasn't happened to you yet.

Either way, you should demand that he get it working, and that it was fine until after he had chipped it.

I don't know exactly where you stand, but even though you've invalidated any warranty on the PS2 itself, your statutory rights should still apply to the mod work you've had done. Whatever that might actually mean, I'm no lawer...

Incidentally, which place on Tottenham Court Road did this? I didn't know any console modders still operated there.
