    problem with HDD

Ive just noticed that when i click on the 'safely remove hardware' icon, the one that comes up in the system tray when you attach a USB device, my HDD is there as one of the attached devices? i know that this shouldnt be the case. This could explain why my HDD is so slow and why it takes ages to shut down. Any ideas on why this is and how i can remedy it? My HDD is a Maxtor 6l200M0 and my mobo is a asus A8N-SLI.

have you installed your motherboard chipset specific drivers? go to their site and get em..

    also

is your drive SATA? correct me if I'm wrong but you can hotplug SATA drives (as long as its not your OS heh), so the 'attached devices' reference might be because of that.

yes it is a SATA drive. i have installed the mobo drivers, but not all of them. When i did, i couldnt run any installers i downloaded (eg winamp, msn, nvidia) for some reason. So i just installed the minimum to get it working . Im a bit reluctant to mess around with the mobo drivers for this reason. One thing is though, thinkin back to when i installed a SATA drive in my other rig, i had to use drivers from a floppy. I didnt have to on this occasion, it recognised the HDD automatically, although it says on the manual that i need to extract the drivers on to a floppy?

What do you mean by hotplugging? Bear in mind that i had the rig built for me.

meaning you can unplug and swap it on the fly with the machine being on, like a usb device or whatever.
