    GC not working!!!!! HELP

Hi guys. Wondering if anyone can help me.

I put my US Platinum GC on this morning and all that happens is the fan goes on, no system on/off light and it doesn't boot up.

I've checked the fuse in the plug and it's fine. Dunno what is the matter. I got the stepdown and GC from Goblin when they where doing the Platinum/Resi 0 deals if that helps anyone figure out my problem.

There's a fault with the power regulator board under the motherboard - you may be lucky, it might just be the surface mount fuse that has blown and not any of the other (unmarked) components.

Cheers Saur, I'll have a look now and see what it looks like.

Do you know anywhere to get GC spares at all?

        I wish >_<

I have 7 NTSC machines just sitting here due to blown regulator boards!

Right, the regulator board is small isn't it?!

Anyways, I can't see any visible signs of damage. Is the fuse under the sticker labelled, "27T2D" on the larger component on the board?

If so, do I need to take that off to check the fuse?

I guess I need a new NSTC machine otherwise right?

            No that's not the fuse.

Next to the power connector is a small rectangular component - that's it, it should be labelled F1 on the PCB. You need to check it with your mulitmeter. You can get a new regulator board the same way you get a new PS2 drive or PSU.

This is very low-tech, but I had exactly the same problem once (my GC stopped and when switching it on the powerlight came on for a nano-second before going off again) and it was the joypad causing the problems. The rumble motor in the pad had blown, and when the GC checked the pad on boot it spotted the problem and just shut-down.

If you haven't already, try switching the thing on with no pads connected.

Sorry if you've already done that - just thought I would pass on my story in case it helps!

Thanks for that rgraves but under inspection of the fuse you can see it's blown. (Light browning at either side of it)

Whenever anything like this happens I take everything away from the console except the power cable to test it.

I'm gonna pop out and see if I can find a fuse to work on it. Nothing ventured nothing gained eh?

Dude, what are the numbers on the fuse, and how big is it?

If you're having trouble finding one, give me a holler!

                    Yeeeehaaaaa!!!!!

Went to Playstation Repair and bought some 5A PS2 mainboard fuses. Switched it over with the blown fuse on my GC regulator board and voila! It now works!!!! Happyness.

I bought 4 so have some spare if anyone else is having a problem with their GC not powering up.

Just thought I'd let you guys know that I sorted it. There is always hope! lol
