no dolby 5.1 on xbox 360

i use my xbox 360 with my crt monitor, and also have the sound blaster x-fi fatality sound card with external I/O drive and so connect the optical cable from the 360 to the optical in port, but i get no sound with dolby 5.1, only with dolby stereo. The same happens on my old computer which has the old sb platinum, why is there no sound with dolby 5.1?

if you play a cd in the xbox can you get sound from you pc speakers?

is there a 5.1 option on the xbox dash that needs enabling.

I would think the xbox side is easy so its likely to be the soundcard and windows settings giving you grief.

if you get sound via the optical at least you know the cables working

    good luck

I'm pretty sure that you need to go into the Audio options and change output to 'digital'.

I changed the settings in the menu on the 360, wired it straight into my Sony amp and it picked up a Dolby Digital Signal straight away.

The Menu's/dashboard run in prologic 2 through the amp, put a DVD or Game in and it automatically changes to DD.
