What are you using it for?

SD images are very poor on the Samsung, but very good on the Sharp.

Whereas, iirc, the Sharp doesnt display HiDef stuff at full resolution, or something.

Have you checked out the LG32LX2R?

      I absolutely adore my Sammy

Can't say anything about the other one because I've not seen it before, but I can't see you going wrong with the Samsung one. You can get the 32" without the freeview tuner for about ?850 on Play, in case you didn't know.

Yeh, not being Samsungist or Sharpist but I think the LG is the best bet out of all these LCD's at the moment, I contemplated all three of them and decided on the LG in the end and I was glad of it, SD is definitely better on the LG than the Samsung, I can say that, and the PiP modes for Samsung I dont think are as good as the LG, my mate seemed very impressed with my LG, and said he wished he got it over his Samsung the week before!

Your best checking out avforums too, lots of reviews and opinions on all the TV's there, which will help you choose.

I know I have the LG and I think it's best, and probably most people will say their TV is the best so your best doing your homework and choosing yourself which you think is right for you.

Sony KDL-V32A12U (expensive, no VGA, WEGA Engine so slightly better at handling SD)
Sony KDL-S32A12U (aboslute bargain, VGA, no WEGA)

I recently bought the Sony KDL-S32A12U and its a beautiful LCD screen

nice for 480/720p on the xbox, 480p on the ps2, 480p on the Gamecube (all via component). I also use the PC input for a lovely Dreamcast VGA signal.

HD sources look stunning, Ridge Racer 6 in 1080i. WOW

Its a slightly more expensive TV than the current 32" range. but it oozes quality. Also has an HDMI socket and freeview.

Standard def sources look ok, not too shabby via component.

SD (videogame) images aren't vastly superior on the LG than the Samsung, though there is improvement. Let's face it though - high-def LCDs are only going to really sing when their native resolutions are reached near.

The menu system and array of options in the LG are certainly better planned out. I found tinkering around with the settings (thanks to Andrew's guide in the forums) and decreasing sharpness helped the image considerably.

Out of having experience of the Samsung and LG I have to agree with Rossco - the latter seems to possess a slight edge in VGA and SD content. It also comes with the bonus of being future-proofed for HDMI when it finally comes.

Lyris and dvdx2, how do you guys think the Sony fares against this screen?

I myself have always gone for Sony, bit of a brand loyalty for some reason, but upon doing a bit of research that Panny came second in the What hi-fi sound and vision awards.
Strangely the Samsung didnt even get a mention,as i am considering the 40" of that.

Ta,and sorry to hi-jack the thread.

Sturae: The Sharp isn't HD ready, so if it has to be between those 2, get the Sammy. Sharp do a HD version too (GA6E) which might be also worth a look. I have one of them

Nick: I absolutely adore the Panny's. They look sooooo nice. I think the Sony S Series is better than the Panny 52, and the Panny 500 series are better than the Sony V Series. For some absurd reason, the V Series had it's VGA port removed.

Have a look around to see if you can get the Toshiba 32WLT58 for a decent price anywhere. It's a decent LCD display and is ideal for gaming as it has 2 HDMI inputs, 1 VGA, 1 Component and a few SCART sockets. It's got Freeview built in too.

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. In theory, that's 4 connections that can support HD-TV out of the box shame they don't do the same thing in smaller sizes.

The JVC range are also worth a mention. Really though, see which ones you can afford, and are available, and then try to demo them. Only way you can be sure to be happy with your purchase.

Nick, they both look very similar, spec wise. I`m sure you would be pleased which ever one you went for.

I'm confused. The original link to that Samsung models states 'Digital Interface (HDMI-HDCP, DVI Compatible)' - does this not mean it has a HDMI socket?

I'm seriously thinking about getting this TV and this thread is worrying me. What does SD stand for and why is the Samsung worse at it?
