    Panasonic TX26LXD52 and gaming

    Hi all

Has anyone got this LCD TV and used it with any of the current gen consoles (as opposed to the XBox 360). I'm thinking of buying it, have RGB scart connectors, and it seems pretty good; but I can't find a ms response time for it in any review.

And it's ?800, so, y'know, it could be a big mistake if it makes Ikaruga look like ghost/jaggy city.

    Cheers.

i'm getting that T.V on wednesday, so i can give you an update on how current gen works on it.

It has a 14ms according to the Dixons website.

If you buy Today from Dixon's website you get 10% of if you enter the code XMASDAY10 when buying, so it will cost you ?737.99

Cheers for that code -- you just saved me ?50. I ordered it anyway after reading that response time (all other reviews said it was a great TV, w 800:1 contrast).

If you want the current gen consoles looking good on an LCD, it'll be better if you use component cables instead of RGB.

@TotU: I would, but that would really *dwarf* the living room. I've got a 15" Sony CRT at the moment which has looked just about right for the past 20 years.

@HH: Is RGB scart really that bad on an LCD? If so, what component cables do you recommend for DC/Cube/XBox and PS2?

RGB is very good on the 52 series.

These Panasonic screens completely blow the Samsungs out of the water, I've had both and the difference is amazing!

                That's good news.

I've just been checking out other threads and saw the Play Asia component box -- http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-...t-70-3cb.html# -- which seems to be what many people here recommend. I see PA are also selling a component cable that would cover the XBoix and PS2 -- http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-n-70-3zq.html.

Anyway, I'll give the RGB a go for now. In any case, it'll be nice to actually see the bullets in DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou for the first time.

                Thanks for the help, guys.

That might be said for the Xbox and GC, but IMO PS2 looks a lot better using RGB scart. Just my opinion though.....

EDIT: on topic, I love the TV. The only thing which stopped me from buying it was a lack of VGA port, which is available on the more expensive LX500 model.

I have this set in the kitchen, it is in my opinion the best LCD out there and absolutely pisses on the Samsung I had for a week, but it still isn't a gaming display.
Black levels are better than most, but get any game one with a lot of dark areas and they struggle, the response time on this is also far better, or rather I should say the smearing is far less than alot of other sets, but it is still not brilliant and my plasma really shows it up.

Do you need a flat panel if you are only going 26"??

It's a small living room, and a CRT would stick out too much, so on the whole, yeah. I've been used to a 15" CRT, and just fancied an LCD.

How do they compare to the Sony Bravias? I'm lookin at gettin the 26" S-Series with PC input which has been reduced from ?1000 to ?800 on empire direct.

Smeg, the Panasonics compare very favorably. Some people over at the AV Forums say they look better when fed with the same signal, but personally I'd go for the Sony as the Panasonics don't have a backlight adjustment.

@HH: Is RGB scart really that bad on an LCD? If so, what component cables do you recommend for DC/Cube/XBox and PS2?
SCART can only carry an interlaced signal which you should avoid at all costs on an LCD. It won't look awful, I just think it's a shame to spend that much and not transfer the best signal possible.

Dreamcast: there isn't a component cable. VGA still gives you 480p video though. If you're rich, buy a $200 KD-VTCA3 VGA->Component transcoder. If not, it looks like you're stuck with RGB SCART.

Cube: There's only one cable because of its strange design. You can get it at Play Asia.

Xbox and PS2: Don't feel qualified enough to say - the Xbox I believe has antiflicker filterng on the video output (even when you're using it in Progressive/HD modes!!!!! The utter stupidity doesn't cease to amaze, you can tell this was the first time Microsoft had made a console) so it looks a lot softer no matter what.

So they're about the same? thats okay then, jus wanted to make sure one wasn't lightyears ahead of the other :P

btw is the 14ms response time right? or is it a "good" 14ms? my 16ms monitor is awful for alot of games but I know some of the numbers are optimum response time rather usual response time and so even with numbers it can vary a hell of alot from monitor to monitor.

I would say that the Panasonic is probably better than the Sony "S" series, but not the "V" or "W"

Response times can be rated totally differently; a "true" 16ms is capable of showing 62.5fps, which is all that's needed. Panasonic are usually quite good at listing specs, so I would expect it to be quite a bit better than an older 16ms monitor.
