What's max resolution available for the Xbox 360 VGA cables out now?

It seems from another thread that I may have an inferior VGA Xbox 360 cable!

I am wanting to play Xbox 360 games on my HP L1925 19" TFT using my Joytech Xbox 360 VGA cable and one commented that I should be able to run it on the same resolution as my TFT which is 1280x1024 yet I can only force it to 1024x768 as it's maximum (full) 4:3 resolution on the Xbox 360.

What resolution do the Joytech or official Xbox 360 VGA cables go up to?

Have I bought an inferior Xbox 360 VGA cable?

Help a stressed lad out here guys, please!

Hmmm, something is wrong with my setup or possibly my Joytech Xbox 360 VGA cable.

As taken from the av forums...

2.5 Can I use a PC monitor instead of a TV or projector?
With the VGA lead sold separately, the answer is "Yes" but the resolution information on the net is somewhat conflicting at the moment as Microsoft have yet to publish the official specs. What is certain is that there is as yet no DVI-D connection option - only HD15. Although the AV port on the 360 can apparently output an analogue or digital signal as required, so far the only leads announced are analogue leads.

With the VGA lead, you will be able to view your 360 at resolutions from 640x480 at 50/60Hz (4:3) (see picture below), and it is clear 16:9 resolutions will be available also. It may be the case that resolutions above that shown in the picture will be available when the 360 is attached to a suitable display.

Many monitors however cannot display 16:9 pictures without black bars at the correct refresh rate (both vertical and horizontal).

The VGA kit will support analogue CRT or TFT monitors. Although CRT screens can can display any resolution up to the maximum with varying pixel sizes, TFT monitors are built with a fixed pixel grid. As such, it depends on the monitor whether black bars will appear above and below the screen image or whether the picture will scale to fill the full screen - check your TFT manual to see how it handles non-native resolutions.

Unfortunately, Microsoft seem to have now blocked 50Hz via the VGA lead. I cannot play Splinter Cell or the original Halo when mine is plugged in. It now tells me that my current display mode is not supported. (I guess they disabled it because most displays don't like 50Hz over VGA)

It still kicks into 50Hz when playing DVDs though.

        OMG, I'm really struggling here...

Can someone confirm for me if they can see a resolution of 1280x1024 using the Joytech VGA on their Xbox 360?

I can't see that option at all!

Now this confusing... Just read this and it looks like a res of 1280x1024 isn't available!

          VGA RESOLUTIONS.
When you plug the VGA cable into the 360 you have six resolutions to choose from. 640x480, 848x480, 1024x768, 1280x720, 1280x768, and 1360x768. These resolutions are widescreen except for 640 x 480, and 1024 x 768 which are 4:3 aspect ratios for non-widescreen monitors

1280x1024 is available and works with my official VGA lead on a PAL machine. Can be set to standard or widescreen.

Right, I think I've eventually found the answer to my own question!

I've not been on live as yet and I've just found this interesting info out!

              Update:

I recently logged onto live with my 360, and it patched a couple things, including the system res, and halo 1 and 2 when i booted up the games.

              Fixes:

              - Added 1280 x 1024 res

              - Added anti-aliasing to both halo games; looks real good with no "jaggies" at all.

              - Colors vibrance too seems to have been fixed some with the new resolution added. The contrast is still less then what i get from the xbox 1 via vga, but much better.
