    360 playing up? Advice needed

When I boot up my 360 either by pressing the console button or wireless joypad button it just hangs. The ring of light on the console isn't lit (apart from the power logo) and the ring of light on the controller just spins continuously.
When I power it down and try again pressing either button it works fine.
I always have to do this after it's been turned off for a few hours.
Any solutions or advice? It's only 5 days old from Woolies.

I have a similiar problem. Bought a wireless controller and have tried linking to my machine but can't - the ring of light just flashes consistantly. Same problem kinda ?? Do you have any problems with live?

If you switch it on with the pad you shouldn't need to press the controller->console connect button(s).

Sounds dicky Nige I'd look to change it.

Yeah, just read a few people are having the same problem on Xbox.com
It's on it's way out, had some red flashing lights earlier. Not only that but my 4th Samsung 32 LCD has started making hissing noises from the speakers with or with out mute selected. I want me Master System and 14" B&W portable back! Lasted me for years, not days.

Have you got your 360 upright or on its side. I'm convinced that they don't like being upright.

Had mine upright since I got it (been more than 2 weeks now), and not a problem (touchwood!!)

My first Xbox 360 was upright & worked fine - if a little noisy. Sold that one to my friends at CEX!
Picked up a 2nd premium pack & have used it horizontal. It's so quiet, but dosen't work properly. It's bad karma for selling it to CEX for a gazillion quid!!
Never again will I buy a ****ing Samsung product either! On my 4th TV & all have been ****. I really am cursed!

Get a Refund Mate and dont bother getting a replacement for a few months!

I want one but wont even consider getting one until all the flaws are fixed!
Not what you want to hear i know but from what i read on other forums at least 50% of the ****ers dont work!
                  Good luck whatever you decide!

Nah, Waratah. I did think about Makro, but it was without freeview.

Fancy a game of Halo2 before my 360 packs up totally. I'll be on in 10 mins.

Can I hijack yoir thread and ask about a few "Hang" situations I've had:

                            - Going from PGR to the trial of Geometry Wars, BLACK SCREEN. (Reboot, & then OK)

                            - Hosting games on Bankshot billiards, game freezes. This has not happend since I opened firewall ports.

                            - Going from MP3's to Dashboard. Hang. Rebooted.

Are these just normal bugs? Or should I be calling Microsoft support?

Personally if it was me i'd be getting onto Microsoft support.

My 360 is horizontal in a cabinet, has never overheated, never hanged and although it gets warm never 'too' warm.

It's been used quite a lot since launch, yesterday had a "gaming day" and it was used solidly from 1pm till 2.30am the following morning thanks to perfect dark, pgr and kameo.

I'm half inclined to feel the same way that EvilBoris does, convinced that for some reason they don't like being upright. Don't get me wrong I know they're designed to be and many people don't have any problems at all, it's just most people that have seem to have it upright.

A friend recently managed to get a premium and used it upright from day one. He had random crashes etc so I told him to try it horizontal and it's been fine ever since.

I know it's stupid but I think the heat dissipation is a problem if horizontal. Out of a test when I was round his house I turned off the machine and removed his HDD, the bottom was VERY hot.

Did the same to mine yesterday after 5/6 hours and mine was barely warm
