    Gamecube or PS2??

    Merry Xmas all,
Have a bit of a query really.
Having sold a bundle of retro gear I have decided to get with the now and opt for a newer console. After having years of Saturn, DC and Famicom love I've been offered both GC and PS2 ( I have an Xbox but mainly use for emulation and the odd game of Burnout). I've been offered a U.S Ps2 (network pack nearly brand new, which I would later mod for all region) with Onimusha 3 for ?55.00 or a Pal GC with Res. Evil, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes & Zelda:Wind Waker for ?45.00.

Im really after a console I can play Resi. Evil 4 on and like the sound of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus from the reviews I read, also having sold my DC 'Rez' would like to play again maybe on the PS2, but at the same time like classic feel of the Ninty titles.
Sadly all my mates have retro collections nothing really post-dating the DC so have'nt had much of a chance to play around with the newer titles for either machine. Wondered what anyone could recommend??

    Cheers all!

If you want something that has a little more long-term life to it, go for the PS2. The GC is great, but it's days are numbered.

Both consoles have an excellent, and completely different back-catalogue of titles mind, and both have excellent versions of RE4 (PS2 version containing more extras, though GC version being graphically slightly better).

If it was a black and white choice between the two, I'd have to say PS2 simply for the choice and diversity of the software catalogue, and the fact that it'll still be fairly active compared the Gamecube (for another 1-2 years as the PS3 beds in).

The Gamecube's a lovely console, but no console this generation is able to offer the range the PS2 does for me.

Although I would usually go for the gamecube love, the PS2 deal is a very hard one to turn down. Bargain.

It is getting harder to buy GC games in stores now, so you should get the games from the internet. Old PS2 games are easy to find in stores though.
I would recommend the GC if you will be content with all the games which have come out for it. It will last you ages, plus it is a good system for offline multiplayer.

If you want new releases then get the PS2 because it will get more 3rd party games.

If you want the better version of games than get the GC because it is more powerful, and if you are going to get a next-gen console when they come out (or if you are getting a 360 soon) then get the GC!

Would do Kong but as always low on the old reddies!
See I have an Xbox and I know a lot of the Ps2's catalogue has appeared on the Xbox, so i'd basically be buying a PS2 for Devil May Cry, Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. But while I'm drawn to the GC and the cheapy games! I'm not sure if I'd have the time to put in for Metroid Prime, Zelda etc? hmmm a toughy indeed.

I'd get both for those prices! You can't go wrong with either of them in my opinion for those asking prices.

Oh okay, in that case I'd go for the PS2. The PS2 has a better range of games and there is still great stuff to look foward to on the PS2 (Okami, FFXII and Ominusha 4 for example). Also, there are some great bargains to be found in the PS2, more so than the Gamecube and the xbox in fact.

The Gamecube is a great console but, on the other hand, it seems to have an extremely limited future. There are doubts over whether Zelda TP will arrive on the GC, too. Most of the Gamecubes best game are invariably "experience" games, which demand a lot of time to put in. So thats something to consider if you're unsure about being able to put the time into the likes of Zelda etc.

                    Hope all that helps

cheers bud! Was a bit worried about having the same games for the PS2 as Xbox, but Devil May Cry and a few other bits n bobs seem reason enough for the PS2 to be the option to go for! Besides, finally got to play Metroid Prime and really couldn't get into it!
